I remember reading about Gold Star Mountain in a Nintendo Gamer mag, the Australian Version, where they were talking all about the JRPGs or RPGs in general with potential games in future years and games that were months away from being released from the time the article was printed. Even if Gold Star Mountain was cancelled, I still remember the name because in the same article, there was another JRPG game mentioned called Skies of Arcadia and I was really wanting to track down the game on release, once I got it I loved it. I am sure if Gold Star Mountain was released too, I would have loved that game just as much as I was early getting my foot into JRPGs at the time after a barren N64 period that was my first console I had at home and never was exposed to JRPGs due to Australia being part of PAL region like Europe and UK was, were totally unlucky to miss out on many great JRPGs at the time that were forever region locked to American and Japanese systems. These days now, I am swimming in so many JRPGs it is not funny but I still think back to that article in Nintendo Gamer in Australia and their feature article on JRPGs as a genre during the early GameCube period and that was where I became really interested into trying to get into those games, especially at the time in the same article it had the first information of the RARE buyout with Microsoft so I was already looking into other avenues of gaming to cope with that loss. Funny to think of the loss of RARE from Nintendo and the arrival of so many JRPGs finally getting onto Nintendo systems in PAL region was happening both around the same time in my personal gaming life.

'Crank the Weasel!' (snigger) It's funny how with just a few small tweaks the name of a game mascot can sound like a wanking euphemism. Crank the Weasel was an interesting concept, perhaps was scrapped after the video game dogma of "It's for kids", and any mature or kinky concept for any console in that generation was simply too much to handle. Morality police like ESRB and PEGI wouldn't approve it.

I remember reading about Zoonami being made out of former RARE developers, really was interested in the games they were proposed to make under the Nintendo GameCube. Sadly all the info I got was from Nintendo Gamer in Australia as well as NGC Mag in the UK that was as little evidence of their existence and potential. Back then in the early 2000s I never had the internet until my 20s midway through the decade so remembering all of these cancelled games on the GameCube and reading about their early in development states in the mags were a nostalgia blast for me while viewing these videos.

I tried Crank the Weasel it's a bit slow on my toaster which can run a bunch of modern games at 60 fps at low or medium quality but this one chugs at 10fps or lower so I have to go to walls to get a good look at some of the good idle animations. I love cartoonish games that are aimed for more mature or adult people like Fritz, Cool World, Roger Rabbit and Conker's Bad Fur Day. I'm surprised there aren't that many raunchy or violent games done like this but keep in mind there are a bunch of people that still think that animation is for kids and adults should stick to gritty action packed shows/movies..... I even have this one jackass co-worker who still thinks that Conker is for kids :\ either he is playing me like the fiddle or just stupid.

@@onaretrotip The problem with Game Developers then & not so much nowadays is that they're too overly ambitious for a market that doesn't want innovation. So in other words: they're going to the extreme, trying to be different only to fall flat on their faces for literally no reason at all but their own amusement. The problem with that is they're not even having fun working on the game to begin with let alone failing to release it! How come we have businesses who are run by morons who don't understand what the gamers want? But then again you got the butthurt kids still in school who always demand for something new like the world & life itself is going out of style? Wasteful little maggots!
