As a landlord, I have never understood why other landlords put so many restrictions on their tenants. The property is the tenants home not the landlords! If I allow the tenants to decorate as they wish, they are likely to stay longer which is good for me. Any damage caused is protected by the deposit. I hope other landlords read this. Oh, and great video Kate, stay safe 👍

OMG I wish you were my landlord 😭 we have a " maintenance guy" who only shows up when he needs money. I'm not allowed to paint other than white. There's alot that needs repaired, but he only wants his guy to do the work! Fingers crossed I can talk him into letting us put a roof over the porch, it's a very odd size so we can't even get a gazebo or a pop up cover so there's no shade on the porch which stinks because I love to be outside but I suffer from ocular migraine! Not to mention that we have put in our own money and time putting in new flooring in the master bedroom and bathroom and the laundry room. Between the repairs, no coverage on the porch, constantly waiting for the maintenance guy, and the internet service I'm ready to move.

@@tinamayhle3512 I'm a landlord. 1. Put everything to in writing, emails are legal so avoid verbal requests, you should say as I asked last March I need to have my oven repaired, the burner still doesn't work... I'm stunned your rental was in such bad shape you had to put in your own time and money into flooring. Just stunned. 2. Free help, call your County Bar Association, tell them you've heard that there is a program where you can consult with an Atty that specializes in renters' rights. The Atty gives you a free half or a full hour to see if you could have a case, and you get a lot of free info and frankly, you have been screwed. The owners are in violation and look at your lease and have it ready for the Atty to ask questions and before your meeting or phone consult have your questions ready. Good luck, you deserve better. I would never treat my residents like that. He's in violation and yes it is legal and yes I would take him to court. If you lived and didn't pay rent they would take legal action against you. Take your power back, you'll feel so much better.

I always have to laugh hearing designers tell us to get the furniture off the walls. That's great for huge open concept houses, but those of us in smaller, traditionally laid out homes, it's hardly practical. If I floated all my furniture, I could no longer walk around. Not to mention the waste of space that causes. My rooms look far larger with the furniture pushed up against the walls, I guarantee!

It is actually a complety wrong concept. Of course going to extremes in any direction is not good, but letting your walls breathe a little will create a better flow in the room, unless it's really tiny tiny. People also tend to get furniture that are much too big for the space and that creates an issue.

Same here. Maybe I'll slip a mirror behind the furniture 🤔

I live in South Africa and we're in quarantine too! Spending so much time at home has made me notice how empty my walls are and I've been raking my brains trying to figure out what to do. This video came right when I needed it. Thank you!

I've watched a TON of interior design idea videos, and this is the best one yet. It's showed me ideas I haven't even thought of before, and it's helped a lot. Liked ❤

How can you clean a rug? espesially the ones that are white and fuzzy because you cant vacumn them because they will get caught up in the brissles. ugh thats the only problem i have with picking out rugs because they get dirty and i never know how to keep them looking new and clean and fresh. xo

Use a pet hair brush and comb it! The same way they do with those same textured blankets, life saver! Time consuming but worth it

I saw somebody's great trick (in comments in here) of buying a large Ikea Sisal mat and then placing a smaller rug/mat over that which you can keep cleaning and changing as you please. You get a big area rug feel and look, but only need to take care of a smaller rug. I have seen photos of it in design magazines too and looks great too!

I absolutely LOVE this video! I've been living in an apartment throughout my 22 years of living on this earth. I felt stuck and didn't know how to decorate the apartment without getting the landlords angry. Now I have a bunch of ideas to redecorate my space and in the near future. Thank you, Mr. Kate, for making this video. Very much appreciated! :)

Thank you. I'm in an apt that I can't paint the walls you've fired up my creativity- synapse-lapse with ideas...but first... declutter. I'm in LA too...with no vehicle...so finding things to do to keep from going cra-cra is very im-por-tan-te'. Si! Again thank you.

Hi... I have a small studio apartment that I can't paint either. But I wanted to share that I use alot of mirrors to make it seem bigger. I also decorated a wall with the letter L and everyone knows that I collect them so I receive them for my birthday etc. Now I have almost a whole wall covered in L's and I get alot of compliments. 💙

My dad has promised me a room make over for my birthday after lockdown! Thanks for the inspiration! I’m painting my room and have a single bed still... but I can’t get a double bed coz I’ve only had my bed a few years ☹️. My room is big enough for a double bed and there’s still lots of space with book shelf , draws and desk!
