My kids were all born in the 80-90s and eggin a hole was a great Saturday breakfast for them. As a matter of fact one daughter made it for her kids and cousind recently and they all that they had something exotic. I like SoS with smoked paprika and choped green chilies on top.

That sounds like such a wonderful tradition! It’s amazing how those classic breakfasts can bring back great memories and even feel like something special for the next generation. Adding smoked paprika and green chilies to SoS is a fantastic idea-sounds delicious! Thanks for sharing!

I'm in my 60s, and even when I was a kid, everybody was dissing on SPAM. One of my grandmothers liked it and we had to eat it at her house, but that was it. Didn't know anybody who drank Carnation breakfast drink. That was for, I guess, working moms? We all ate cereal, oatmeal, or eggs and toast for breakfast. You could eat cereal in the living room on Saturdays watching cartoons. Pancakes on Sundays.

It's funny how tastes and trends change over the years! SPAM certainly had its fans and its critics. Your childhood breakfasts sound so cozy, especially Saturday mornings with cereal and cartoons, and pancakes on Sundays. Those traditions make such warm memories!

Homemade corned beef hash sounds amazing! There’s nothing like taking the time to make it from scratch-it must be packed with flavor. And SOS is such a classic comfort dish; it’s great to hear you still enjoy it. Both are perfect examples of hearty, satisfying meals! Thanks for sharing your culinary favorites!

Try again? Nein danke. All industrial, uber-processed, sugar-loaded (or was it corn syrup?). Did they, the Americans, ever have a chance of cooking and eating real healthy foods? It was certainly the case thirty years ago, when I lived in the US for a while - but I lived among very well-set people of the New England coast. Perhaps the poorer classes were, indeed, hooked on low-grade foods.

It’s true that many processed and sugar-laden foods have been popular in the US, but there's always been a rich tradition of healthy, home-cooked meals too. It often depends on the region and community. The New England coast, with its fresh seafood and farm produce, certainly has a history of wholesome eating. While it's true that access to quality food can vary, there's a growing movement across all demographics towards healthier, more natural foods.

You lived with wealthy people and you’re shocked middle class people(who were/are on a fixed income) didn’t eat the way rich people did? 😮🙄 I cannot stand pretentious people like you.

Ja. My grandmother and mother cooked. From scratch. Grandmother was Russian, grandfather was German. She learned to cook his food as a young bride. Mother's parents were Polish. Good food. Growing up as kids mom always cooked. Any breakfast cereal was no sugar. But this was 50 years ago.
