As a child hands down the K1 750 Honda Four blew my mind and ears (got me to buy one when at age). Three or four of these machines with baffles out idling down the road sounded like a WW2 B52 bomber raid. My Triumph with the BSA Rocket Three engine was a head turner sound maker as an adult.

I came over to this video based on your reply to a comment I made about Honda VFRs being so iconic, so yes, your replies are appreciated! I am obviously partial to the V4 gear driven cam whine and thus really love the similar way a Honda RC51 V-twin sounds as it has the same whine. I have Moriwaki titanium pipes installed and the deep throat-ed rumble has never failed to make me smile in 24 years of ownership. Thanks for the videos and keep it up!

Totally agree about the Honda 297... and I'm old enough@ 71 to remember Ago on the triples and fours especially at the TT.On the banking at the Creg, he passed me several times so close that there was a percussion type of physical blast and the explosive bark that made me flinch involuntarily ruining my panning and left me with photos consisting of empty tarmac, tarmac with fraction of Ago's helmet, tarmac with end of bellowing pipes...I was 0nly 17 so improved over the years to pin sharp pics of Bob Mckinly,SMBH ducati win, Mcguiness etc but I'll never forget I'll never forget the Triumph Slippery Sam,MVs as their revs peaked and crashed as the back tyre left the ground around the mountain. one tiny criticism is you very informative comme ntary can spoil the sounds we all want to hear..maybe subtitles could help. Excellent research all the same.thanks. One thing that is not covered by anyone is the on bike sound experience, my 2000 Ducati's 916 engine has a great exhaust sound above 6000- 9500 rpm ( no catalysers), but the induction howl/moan going down the box gets me everytime.😅

As they say 'I was there' !. It was a hot week-end. At the end of the official racing the track was opened for approx. 30 mins (I suspect unintentionally) to spectators with bikes to take a blast around. I remember putting in 3 laps with my buddy who was on a Honda 900 Super Sport, before they closed it down. Such fantastic memories. I really like my current Moto Guzzi V7 850 but this has me wanting to go out and buy a more powerful bike !. Even at my age, once speed gets in the blood ... it is hard to shake.

Thanks for showing the Jota & RGS plus the Benelli. My friend with a Jota and I (RGS) were at a M/C event years ago and we had a sound off. The crowd loved it but the promoter did not invite us back. Before the RGS, we also had a 750 Sei with the 6 into 2 Marving exhaust - a glorious sound. Thanks so much for the good memories!!

Excellent auditory treasures every one. Great video yet again. Well worth the wait. For me, the Britton V twin has a quality reminiscent of the Rolls Royce Merlin: raw and untamed, yet with a definite brutal purpose. As Clarkson pointed out, Aston Martin V8s are “poetic violence”, but New Zealand’s rarest export, and the engine that won the ‘39-‘45 air war both stand alone in their own realm. Thank you for sharing. No need to apologise for the output delay. Peace

I love the sound of the R1 racers, but as an MT10 owner, I prefer it's sound. It is absolutely brilliant and I'm besotted by mine. I agree with your assessment of the best sound. I was on the Strubben Tribune bend at Assen for (what we called) the 500 cc Motorcycle Grand Prix in 1980 and Mike did a few demo laps on his old RC174 and as he pootled past us, he just kept pulling in the clutch and revving the B0ll0cks off it. Wonderful sound.

Wow! You brought back a lot of awesome memories AND introduced me to some fantastic sounding bikes I can't remember ever seeing before! I think I did post a tiny video of a CBX taking off with an immaculate old 750 4 from either side of my Burgman a little while back, he didn't wind it out since it was still fairly cold but, they do sound amazing when up in the revs and throttle. So many of them sounded amazing and I'm right with you about the importance of the sound. My DL650 with that Two Brothers Racing exhaust made a really sweet sound the gopro vid just doesn't do justice but, not a patch on these bikes you showed here. One I really liked the sound of that I had was my XS 750 triple shaft drive Yammy which had been worked over for racing so the engine was a fair bit livelier than stock and had a custom 3 into 1 that made a pretty addictive sound that made you feel like you had to wring it out everywhere you went, just so I could hear it. It wouldn't compare to most, if any of the bikes you showed here. I don't envy you the challenge of making this video and trying to position them, you took on a hell of a challenge and despite the inevitable disagreement many will undoubtedly have, I think you did a great job and thank you so much for it 👍.

@@barebonesmc I can see that, no wonder you're so busy. This one was quite a major effort I'm sure and 2 stroke engine noises are a LOT more subjective, plus a lot of people just hate the sound of them anyway. I'm patient enough to wait to find out but, I'm sorta expecting my old Suzy 550 GT to maybe make it into that one. I won't be terribly disappointed if not but, I did enjoy the cackle of 3 2 stroke cylinders running together. To me, it was probably the most pleasant sounding one I ever owned. It or maybe you prefer the 750 water bottle, or maybe you've got a bunch that sound better than either of them, either way, I won't give you a hard time since they will be a LOT harder to choose from all the different 2 strokes over the years and every one of us dinosaur 2 stroke lovers, yeah, all 6 of us will have different reasons for loving particular ones, plus stock or modified, especially expansion chambered ones will all suit different people. BTW, I remember you saying something about that "2STROKESTUFFING" and if it was the one where he worked out he'd built the expansion chamber ALL based off 1 wrong measurement at the head that compounded from there. Well he's now made a pipe that by rights is still not right but he had an idea and wanted to try it. It did work pretty well actually and got up to over 12 hp at the rear wheel but, he's only just done it so he's almost certainly going to still build one to known formulas but I think he's going to try a few more things with this one first. The one thing to remember that fools me every time is that in the bike his engine looks kinda big but, it's actually tiny. That top pulley up above that gearbox way up there is the crankshaft, it's only mounted up there on top of all that for testing purposes. I'm also loving hopefully to understand 2 strokes better. I've owned and even rebuilt several 2 stroke bikes over the years yet have never really completely understood exactly how they work, plus how to modify port timing by opening up the right parts to get the port timing to suit the way you want it to deliver power so this is very interesting to me. You kinda know it's a tad revvy when he describes 11,000 rpm as idling speed lol. A lot of commenters are suggesting his home made dyno isn't reading accurately and that they mostly all think it sounds like it's putting out more power than his readings are showing. HINT: If you're interested in power and the torque figures, get ready to hit the space bar about 3 seconds after you see him reach over to press a button on the laptop in front of him.
