I can’t tell you how helpful this series has been! I got Covid in January 2022 and have been long hauling now for 15 months. There have been many times I’ve tried to do a beginner row and all I did was the warm-up, or maybe the warm-up plus the cool down. I tried several times to do the five minute row and was psyched when I could get through the first minute or two. In January 2023, one year since developing Covid, I finally felt that I might be able to do a 2K time trial to get my split pace. Since then I’ve been going through this series with a couple of repeats at each interval. I cannot believe I just completed the 20 minute row and I am not feeling completely annihilated! John, it’s very hard for me to back off and take it easy and you, as a professional athlete, constantly reminding me that the best way I can honor my body is to listen to it was so incredibly helpful when I felt discouraged and frustrated. Today is an important day because our lake has just iced out and I am going to celebrate my success by putting my Aldon rolling shell into the water, and join the loons and the Eagles as spring arrives. Don’t worry, however - I’ll come back to my basement and you on rainy days! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me through the worst of long Covid.

Thank you for creating these videos. I just got a rower yesterday. Reading and hashing over info. Your videos made it easy to row. I have osteoarthritis in my knees. They told me to stay of the treadmill. Husband purchased the rower for me. I also spend time on the bike. I had a PT tell me that do enough exercise to take care of myself and housework. Felt sorry for myself because I was wanting to get back to kayaking. Well, I picked myself up and brush myself off. I am not sitting to watch life pass me by. Again Thank you, looking forward to enjoying more videos of yours.

Hi Carolyn, great to hear from you! Hopefully the rowing machine will give you the movement you need to keep yourself healthy. And there's always the chance that you'll ge some improved mobility from the joints too. Any questions about the videos or technique, please ask!

It's a good session to add intensity to too. You can really hammer it for the 28's as well as push harder for the middle 20's, and really push it up into a proper training session instead of just a build-up session.

Just want to thank you for this series John. I recently got a Concept2 (with no previous experience) and after arm surgery and Covid, I needed to get fit for a big upcoming sailing adventure. Both hubby and I did this session today as part of both our COVID recovery. It’s a great little series, with a lot of different types of sessions. So really kept me going. Also have tested negative finally today, after quite a few days where I felt ok-ish but test said not. So I’m celebrating both the end of this series and end of isolation. Thank you! Now back to my 10k plans and will have to ponder about wether to go back to week 1 or continue with week 3. Hm 🤔

Just be sure not to push too hard. Build yourself back up - but don’t go far enough that you fall over! If you feel good, then do enough that you’ve worked, but that you still feel good. Don’t workout hard enough that you feel drained.

@@rowalong Thanks John - in what way will Aviron rows be different to Concept 2 rows? are they transposable? (I'll be sticking with Concept 2)
@rowalong

To be honest, the only difference is what machine you're watching me on. The format is the same. Follow me for stroke rate, and I'll give you the intensity to row at. In the videos, I don't tend to talk about 2K pace. But I do put them on screen in the graphics, and they're in the video descriptions too. I've always tried to make sure RowAlong wasn't here just for one machine - but it has always had a Concept2 slant. Hopefully this helps catch more people.

Evening John, After checking my log and discovering my last ergo session was the 27th of February (had to move from the good auld log cabin 🥺), I have only done a few on water rows at weekends, thought I would go sensible and build back into a training using this as a great intro session now I have an ergo room (plus 3 drumkits) - crikey, how your fitness can plummet, I was blowing but tried to keep the 28s at 2K splits. Well, here’s to being back on training properly 😎

Newbie rower here. I really appreciate your row along videos to get us started with good form and practice. Just wondering if it be possible for you to share a work out that includes a view at your monitor screen? That would be good for us on different rowing machines to see how close we are to a properly calibrated meter. It also be good for folks to get an understanding of the various metrics.

Congratulations on the venture - long over due that you get some remuneration for all the highly professional content you create. Your row-along coaching style and content is perfect for me - it has changed my outlook and motivation in staying fit - and has therefore become a significant part of my life. On the rowing - I see that there'll be no difference in the 2k-calibrated paces that you use, and so the Aviron rows will be just as accessible for Concept 2 rowers like me.

For this workout, it sure is. And don’t stress about drag. It just affects how you put the power in. You still need to put in the same power to move the “boat”, no matter whether you’re at 80 or 280.
