New subscriber here referred by Vinyl Voyage. Several things to check out here. Early this year I streamed an album by Tal Ross who just happened to pass away earlier this year. He was from your home state and played on, I believe, the first three Parliament albums until being knocked down by LSD. About 25 years later he released "Giant Shirley" which is worth checking out if you don't already know it. Great upload.

As a big funk fan I figured finally a video I’d have a few of the records too…nope! I obviously know of the Skull Snaps album, but never seen an original copy in my life. Most of the rest of the stuff I’ve never even heard of, aside from the Magnum. Just curious, but I assume you’re familiar with Manzel? They’re from my hometown of Lexington, Kentucky, and only put out two 45s on Fraternity Records back in the late 70s. I keep crossing my fingers I’ll stumble across one of those 45s since they’re from my town, but…nothing doing so far. Those are two of my favorite funk tracks right there.

GET OUT OF MY HEAD! I was just thinking the other day that I hoped you'd do this video. I love funk and have since I was a little kid rocking out to Sesame Street and the Electric Company but I've been woefully ignorant of the specifics of the genre. Your videos have really helped me find artists and albums that I now count as favorites. You introduced me to Cymande and Maggot Brain through one of your earliest videos. Your most recent Heavy Rotation drove me to stream, and then buy, Shake Your Head. Thank you thank you thank you. Also, as a FYI, Black Nasty - Talking to the People is one of the VMP selections next month.

Directly ordered reissues of the Chapparrals and the Montgomery Express, but my best catch was a German OG from the Earth Disciples which I found in a local German record shop, which to me is an absolute killer. Some of the record labels that were sold to dance classes, such as Statler, Hoctor, and Orion, have some really interesting music. I have several albums on Statler that used a local 1960s garage band called The Night Shift as the musical accompaniment for teaching "jazz dance." Johnny Frigo on Orion is another one that some of the beat diggers chase after.

I prefer Disco to Funk overall- more euphoric, erotica, elevating...... I was not a fan of Skull Snaps, the Hang Up Tune that goes for $$ is more Northern Soul than Funk. I've never seen that Statler, such an enticing label I can't not resist buying anything I see on it, although quite a few have ended up for sale having failed to impress. Jerimiah is a quirky 'so bad it's superb' private press classic, on the Wong!! label which makes it even more desirable. The track - No, No Baby is a cheesy masterpiece, sublime.

No, tracks on album are soul or funk. "My hang up is you", "I'm your pimp" "Didn't I do it to you". Take a listen on YT. I suppose it is odd to see this album reviewed in 2023 when here in the UK first two tracks I mentioned got plenty of plays in soul clubs. at the time of release. "I'm your pimp" was even bootlegged here on a 7" 45. Similarly Dysons Faces. Picked a few copies of each album up in Washinghton DC back in 1980 for the UK club demand.
