You literally read my mind with the goldfish crackers. I’ve lived in Scotland for over 15 years and have yet to find them. They were the first thing I thought of when you said snacks you might miss from the states.

Hey Miranda! I love your videos! Would you be able to do a packing for St. Andrews video or a video showing what the first couple weeks of uni look like during COVID-19? That would be awesome☺️

Can't wait to see you (and the other St Andrews KZitemrs) while walking around. It will be so weird, like seeing a celebrity or smth lmao. I'm arriving on Friday the 4th (from UK internal), do you know if international students will be finished quarantining by then?
@PoojithaTanjore

Camcam CG hi! As an international student, quarantine for many starts on August 24. two weeks after that is the expected finish date. However, international students arriving later/struggling with delayed visa issues will be in quarantine longer.

I’ve shared this with my daughter who’s on her way soon, huge thanks for your review, fantastic stuff, even for UK students! What do you do with your stuff like bedding etc when you have to vacate for Christmas and Summer break? 🙏

Hi! If you live in university accommodation, you can leave all your stuff in your room over Christmas, but then during the summer (even if you are coming back to the same room next semester) you will have to vacate the room completely. Halls generally do not have storage places as far as I'm aware, but there are several storages to rent over summer if you want to :)

Not the most important thing but it's still worth noting that US medication is generally more expensive so stocking up loads of it may not be great depending on your financial situation. It is actually true that some UK medicines with the same brand names as in the US use different active ingredients so you might experience your usual dosages starting to be effective at different speeds, for different durations, and with different side effects. This might lead you to believe that they are less effective. This is not always true, for example, Benadryl contains a different active ingredient in the US that is more likely to make you drowsy than the Uk variants that use non-drowsy antihistamines. This, possibly negative side effect, might make it feel like the drug is doing more for you because the impact is more obvious. Considering this, it's not always the case that UK drugs are less effective, they may just FEEL different which can put you off. If you feel like you don't want that compromise then, for the best option for your wallet, I would suggest researching the active ingredient in your preferred medicines and then seeing how you can get that in the UK, rather than looking for brands. You can get, what is essentially US Benadryl in the UK under a different name, without a prescription and it will probably be cheaper than in the US. For instance, if you take Dayquil and are worried about dealing with a varied experience do not substitute it with Daynurse. You can quickly google to find out that the main active ingredients in Dayquil acetaminophen, dextromethorphan, and phenylephrine hydrochloride are different from Daynurse's Paracetamol, Pseudoephedrine hydrochloride, and Pholcodine. Even though both drugs aim to do the same thing, if you want as close to an identical experience as possible, go for Beecham's breathe clear (it is in a sachet and you drink it but it contains more of the same ingredients in comparable amounts so it ought to feel more similar). It's not always exact but if it is getting close it ought to feel better. For the sake of convenience, bringing drugs with you makes sense but if you are worried about costs, it is perfectly possible to get the same drugs that you want if you are willing to compromise on brand. UK pharmacies are generally cheaper and they will be willing to help you get the medicine you want as long as you know what that is. Please research this before you arrive though as it is always possible we are more restrictive and require a prescription for a certain drug or active ingredient and in such a case bringing some with you might be the best choice to avoid having to wait or compromise. I'm also no chemist or doctor, I had just never heard of this difference before this video and got stuck down a rabbit hole looking into it. So please be aware I'm no expert and I may be wrong, but that is also the beauty of pharmacies, your chemist is a great first point of contact if you have any questions about what medications to take.

@MirandaWilson

Hahaha no you’re not i didn’t explain it well anyway!! They’ve asked us to come back unless we can’t, and we’re doing hybrid classes- basically it sounds like lectures will be online, and our small group classes (no more than 15-20 usually) will be in person, but socially distanced in large rooms like lecture halls. international students from most countries (depends on UK govt) have to quarantine for two weeks, so I’ll be quarantined my first two weeks back! Scotland has had a pretty serious lockdown and still has a lot of restrictions in place, so I’m hoping it all goes well! Def will be mask wearing and distancing however!

Hey 👋🏻 Are there any clubs/courses at St Andrews where students can learn a language?
@MirandaWilson
4 жыл бұрын
Yes! There are clubs for a lot of languages that focus on culture, and there are academic courses both for your degree but also evening courses for language learning! I took arabic for two years as one of my modules but also did an evening course as well and both are good! The degree courses are quite intensive, I liked the evening one for upkeep of my skills!
