This list was generated by a food snob! I enjoyed all of these foods-many of which are still available-and they were tasty and nutritious!
@kraziecatclady

tasty, I can agree with, but nutritious is a bit more questionable. Also yes, most of these are still available. I have a few in my pantry right now. Liver and onions is nutritious, but I wouldn't say Vienna sausages, ambrosia salad, nor that canned ham are. All of those are mostly sugar, salt, and preservatives. I mean, you could totally survive on it for a while, but you won't be very healthy.

There’s a lot of stuff on this list of things that are gone that we don’t want back that are still actually very readily available. Instant coffee and hamburger helper are just two examples that popped mine. People still eat liver and onions. You can still find it on quite a few Restaurants. Although maybe more of a southern thing. Which if liver and onions completely disappeared I would be OK with that lol I just had hamburger helper the other night. That’s actually good. Despite what they tell you. It’s not bad, especially if you get the right flavors. The sausages are another one of those things that are still very popular and big sellers. That and potted meat. Although people make fun of potted meat sometimes. It’s still popularity is undeniable. You get a can of Vienna sausages and some crackers. Nice little snack. Same way with potted meat. Although I think pot meat might be an acquired taste. I grew up eating it as a kid. We used to spread it on crackers. Very good stuff.

One of the core characters in the TV series "Suits" drinks prune juice. The character is endearing but decidedly odd -- as evidenced by drinking prune juice in many episodes. I was born in 1961 so lived through this period. My mother was not a good cook. She was a great mom but would do things like cook canned spinach in a pot until it was almost grey and season it only with salt. Thankfully her mother regularly cooked for us. I agree with everything in this video other than dissing pineapple upside down cake. Yes, the 1970's version was absurdly sweet but it is still something I enjoy when I can find it (as a single person I can't justify making it).

I got one thing to say about your comment about fresh ingredients. There isn’t no such thing anymore. Everything is GMO, artificial, lab grown and/or pumped up with antibiotics and who knows what else. Every other week we are hearing about recall after recall for so called healthy veggies among many other foods for deadly illnesses. At least back in the 70s and 80s all fruit and veggies were all natural and organic and chickens free roamed the farms and cows ate grass the way the good Lord intended, not forced fed gmo corn. These days there is very little quality left and you risk your health and maybe even your life trying to eat healthy 🤔😞

Prune juice. If you gotta go, even a small glass of this is the nuclear option. 17:01 I actually HAD a globe glass like that. It was a premium, IIRC, if you sent in coupons or labels plus a small fee (to Taster's Choice?--can't recall). The map of the world on the cup wasn't particularly accurate. But as to instant coffee today, Maxwell House is still a good buy, and its flavor is consistent throughout the jar (as opposed to Folger's, e.g., where only the top third of the jar is drinkable, in my opinion). Also, store brand instant is often indistinguishable from Maxwell House, so save a couple of bucks and try that once. (I really think Kroger's instant is just repackaged Maxwell House, BTW.)

Yeah, we DO have more healthy options nowadays, but a *lot* of use are still not choosing them! A lot of these aren't less popular because they're not healthy, but because they're not as cost-effective as they used to be. Once your cooking skills include different ways to combine pasta, meat, veggies and sauces, Hamburger Helper becomes an unnecessary crutch in the kitchen. And while I can see gelatin salads as unpopular, they were always weird to start with. But why bother with a frozen dinner, when for the same money, you can get a few items on McDonald's value menu with no heating times involved? And powdered milk is great for long-term storage and a backup, but it's just as expensive as buying regular milk, so why bother?

This is basically the same as part one and these things are mostly all still around and consumed widely. Treet is not canned ham, and I don't like it, but I have had really good canned ham, and some where the texture was just not good. I like country ham and don't see the regular hams as anything special, but I can make them taste really good with pineapple juice or a nice glaze. Also I don't get the insistence that people are eating healthier when obesity and chronic diet related health issues are rampant. In the real world 1970's people were active. Kids were always out playing until dark at least and nobody was binge watching shows or sitting around playing video games.

@ 17:12 So Americans expect full body taste and complex flavors from a coffee? That's quite a novelty (even for many Americans, I bet) 😉

Liver may have gone out of style for some people, but you can still find it in many stores. An once of liver will provide far more nutrition than what any eight one steak will. You actually would need around twelve ounces of steak, just to get about the same amount of Vitamin B12 that one ounce of what chicken liver provides. As others said many of the things listed are still around yet today. Someone failed to do their homework and miserably at that. Grade is a double minus f.

I work in a grocery store hamburger helper, vienna sausages (yuck) and jello (something I despise) are still popular.
