Great diy rig. You could do a very similar build with wood for cheaper but it would require considerably more time and effort to create something square and rigid. Thanks for sharing it.

I just thought about all the parts I would need and then bought all the parts. :) you could use these same lengths bit you really won't need it unless a super small amount of flex bothers you. You wouldn't even notice while your driving.

when i needed a rig i explored the idea of using extruded profiles like this but the price for something that could handle a 20nm wheelbase and heavy brake pedals is kinda too high even if you take the diy approach, with 70$ of steel and a welder i solved all my problems, its not as adjustable and it weight over 100 kilos but good luck spotting any flex lmao

I made a part 2 to this actually. I think I went over the seat attachment, now finding one is going to be best on ebay or Amazon. Search "racing seat" or "racing bucket seat" and pick the cheapest one that fits ya booty ;) I'll post the link to part 2.

I would think so, there is a lot of adjustment, if you have any concerns you can add a few inches to the main 2 rails on the bottom and the 2 uprights without interfering with anything else.

A new or even a used playseat challenge is hard to beat. Can be collapsed when not in use and very modifiable. I use a DD on it, v3 pedals and mounted a buttkicker at the bottom.

I know this was designed around the CSL DD wheelbase, but do you think it would work for Thrustmaster TX wheelbase and T3PM pedals?

With some different brackets, it certainly would. Easily. Or if it has a table clamp, it honestly might just be enough to clamp it on. But yes, definitely as long as you go to Home Depot and pick up a few brackets to be sure. Honestly it might even work out with the brackets that would come with the rig design.

getting ready to build this, i have had a such a headache rig shopping. There doesn't seem to be any noticeable flex right? any ideas on sourcing a seat other then the junk yard?

Nothing noticeable while playing, no. I can feel my super burly main rig flex if I'm sitting there and trying to feel something. But while driving and normal use, you won't feel things moving unless you are doing things to purposely feel flex like pushing and pulling on the wheelbase or something weird.

As for a seat, I don't know if it would be a good idea structurally but I always considered a used or free gaming chair. Take off the rolling portion and build a sub frame underneath and attatch it to the frame. I'm not sure it could handle heavy braking but if your pedals are something like csl pedals or thrustmaster/logitech pedals it would definitely handle that.

I'm looking at the extrusion lengths in the Tnutz cart and see that the long pieces are 45 inches. I am 6'6" and am worried about how it will fit me if I follow through with this. How tall are you and how much room is there to spare? I could easily just buy longer extrusions, but the website says that "if possible, please try to purchase extrusions at or below 47" long to reduce your shipping costs as much as possible" so don't want to do that if not necessary.

I'm 5'11" there is more room to be had. I'm sure you could make it work. Go 47" if you are unsure but you can always make aluminum extrusion work somehow. ;)

It's a bit more difficult to mod an oem seat, unless you pull one out of a modified car with a race style seat in it.

@@brandonwilson4408 it's certainly possible to use a regular seat out of any car but from my experience, they are asymmetrical, as you said, if you have the tools and the mechanical ability to adapt it to a rig, it s certainly a great way to save a ton of money and more than likely have a more comfortable sim rig. Many racing seats are built for comfort second to holding you where you need to be as you already know. :)

I think it would, but if you want to play it safe, I'm 5'11". Maybe add 4 inches to the uprights and 4 inches to the longest extrusions? I honestly think it would be fine, but you really can't go wrong with more. It might increase shipping cost though a good bit because the package will be longer.

Unfortunately, I designed and built this for my dad as a compact sturdy first rig. So it's actually multiple states away from me. I am trying to convince my dad to start a yourube channel about his sim racing though. We played together for about 3 hours last night on assetto corsa. :)

@@NoLoveinHell I built this rig to be strong in the directions that matter most, rotating left and right but it the cool thing is the wheel rim itself would have more noticeable flex than the rig. While driving you don't notice any from my experience with it. :) Cool thing about aluminum extrusion is if ever you are dissatisfied with something, just add more! ;) never have to go backwards with aluminum extrusion, great stuff.

You talking about the wheelbase uprights? You could go taller with no harm done, you can't go too tall but you can go too short. You can always cut things and use them elsewhere too if you ever feel things are too long.

Are you buying a preexisting monitor mount? For a shifter and handbrake you could simply buy a single peice of aluminum extrusion (double or single slot) and then buy the brackets and hardware to mount it and maybe add a combo shifter/handbrake plate from a simracing company of your choice.

Get 2 angle brackets with hardware and get a 12" or so long aluminum extrusion and attatch it to you steering wheel upright.

@@DouglasThompson the steering is recognized when i turn the wheel but there's no ffb at all. Also the pedals are inverted...when i'm not pressing it reads it as 100%

@@TheWicked122 you need to set up the pedals to be inverted in the rallysim fans launcher. As for the ffb, you probably need to change the registry. Have you already done that?
