It may take up to 3 tries (30 minutes total) to get the PCM to recognize the new key. This is the procedure: Insert the key and turn to START Release to ON when vehicle doesn't start, and leave there for approx. 10 minutes. Watch the cluster for "SECURITY" to stop flashing. Turn to START release, then switch OFF Turn to START again. If it doesn't work, continue to repeat the procedure. The PCM will eventually recognize the new key.

@@CertifiedShadetree Please make a video to depict this..... These instructions are for the 2000-2005 Chevrolet Impala (Eighth generation) Turn Signal Cancelling Cam replacement. Once you use a PowerBuilt Streering Wheel Removal Set RENTAL from AutoZone to remove the steering wheel, after you removed the airbag, then you must use "snap-ring pliers" to remove the snap-ring from the Steering Air Coil Kit GM part # 26089982, 26088931, or 26092622 aka "Clock Spring". The next step is that one must use the Lisle 57340 Steering Wheel Lock Plate Tool and a small vicegrip to compress the turquoise/emerald spring, which pop the "Lock Plate Ring" GM part # 05694191 up from the lock plate. You can use picks - mine were from AutoZone - to move the lock plate ring from the lock plate... Once removed, then you'll be able to slide the "Turn Signal Cancelling Cam" GM part # 26086061 off the "Upper Steering Shaft" GM part # 26064247. You must be very careful NOT to disrupt the connection of the "Bearing Spring Set" GM part # 15231641 and "Bearing Kit" GM part # 26001827 from the "Upper Steering Shaft" GM part # 26064247.

@@notyourbusiness1850 Sounds like you're describing how to tear apart an old "Saginaw" steering column from a 1.5 Gen W-Body! I'm not sure the 00-05 Impala even has a lock plate in the steering column, as the steering wheel doesn't lock when you shut off the ignition. My other question is, why do you need to replace the cancelling cam? Out of all the possible items to shit the bed inside the column, the cancelling cam is the one item that's the most durable!! If your signal lever isn't cancelling, it's most likely the switch that's shot, not the cam. At least in my experience anyway...

@@CertifiedShadetree I am not sure that it is a an "old "Saginaw steering column from a 1.5 Gen W-Body" or not.... I'm sure that it is a 2005 Impala (Eight Generation 2000-2005) and that it does have what people have told me is a "lock plate" and "lock plate ring" in the steering column. Although, the GM diagrams and part list don't show a lock plate. I can send you pictures and/or video if you contact via Facebook.com coachapbrantley. I actually didn't need to replace the cancelling cam until I broke it trying to replace it. A Chevrolet dealership outside of Detroit, Michigan told me that it was the only part that controlled the horn. A Chevrolet dealership in Norfolk, Virginia seconded that opinion. However, each were wrong... The Turn Signal Cancelling Cam does just that... It was the "clock spring" - see above for the GM part name - that controls the horn, if your horns are working properly. I asked someone like you to do a video of how to replace the Turn Signal Cancelling Cam, because it is the final part toward removing the Upper Steering Column Bracket and/or Housing; and will show people how to remove the "Clock Sping" which controls the horn... It seems that I'm currently stuck per the shaft at the sphere --- bearing seat, et al seems to be out of place aka "sunk in"? Perhaps someone knows what I mean and/or can post a video. I can share some images with you if you want to help. I'm being affirmed that "If you want something done... you gotta do it yourself". If you insert an allen wrench or a bent rod in the space above the switch you can depress the latch and remove the cylinder. Just remove the dash panel.

Honestly I've never ran into that problem on the Impala, but have on an old S10 Blazer. Best case scenario is the PASSKEY sensor in the new cylinder could be bad right off the bat (did you double check to see if you have the connector installed properly?) Worst case scenario is your BCM is bad and in need of replacement. I would try returning the lock cylinder and trying another one before going down the BCM road..

I have a huge issue with mine and I really need to get to work tomorrow. I had just got a locksmith to put in a new ignition lock cylinder but the car won't start. How exactly do I program it? Some say put it on on for 10 minutes and then off for 15 seconds and then again two more times. Then here you are saying to do it for 10 minutes and it could work within any amount of time to do it. We have a 03 Impala.

I think if it's a Pass Lock programing issue, the car will still crank, just not stay running. I believe it cuts power to the injectors. Was the starter cranking with the Old switch. If so, you might have a bad switch, the electrical side of the switch. Test the selonied wire for power at the satrter with the key turned to the run position.

That pin won't depress without the cylinder being rotated. I would try drilling out the cylinder to get it to turn. Regarding the battery, sounds like you're going to have to disconnect it eventually!! 😁 Seriously though, you should still disconnect it, as there's still a chance of shorting something out. The battery might still have a bit of residual voltage present.

@@ericklopez3149 It may take up to 3 tries (30 minutes total) to get the PCM to recognize the new key.

@@AudioReplica2023 Ah ok, I get where you're coming from. The security message will flash if there's an issue with the Passlock. The reason you couldn't remove the electrical harness from the anti thief sensor, was because you need to remove the lock cylinder from the ignition switch first, then you can squeeze the two ends of the electrical harness together, and remove it from the ignition switch.
