Hands down the best explanation of how to set the lash, I just used it while installing new Wagler pushrods during an injector install. Great job!

If you're in there for injectors, it's much easier to turn the motor over when they're out. I didn't have to bother with the balancer, just stuck a 23mm socket on the alternator and turned it over

That’s for sure. A diesel with no compression is super easy to turn over.

I just rebuilt my 06 LBZ and I did the adjustment while the engine was on the stand but I think I may have gone a little tighter than how he explained it. I do have a little bit of a tick that I can hear but I'm not sure if it's exhaust or the valve lash

quick question, what is all removed to access the both valve covers this open?
@screamindieselltd
3 жыл бұрын
lots lol! injectors, injection lines, electrical harness for engine, charge pipes, upper valve covers and lower valve covers, upper rad hose coolant pipe, glow plug control module, high pressure rails, FICM, fuel filter housing. i believe the front brackets that hold the alternator and A/C compressor as well. I had the heads off for head gaskets so there is more off in the valley than there needs to be to get to the valves, but that's roughly what would need to come off. Thanks for the Question and have a good one!!

Is it common to have to adjust these at 200,000? My truck has a slight ticking coming from the passenger side and it’s in tune with the rpm’s… my injectors are fine no white smoke or anything.
@screamindieselltd

Yeah it is possible. They are not hydraulic lifters and so if the gap gets wider then you have to adjusted it manually

@@screamindieselltd thanks for replying man. Been trying to figure out this tick for a couple months I think I’ve finally narrowed it down to valve lash or an injector.

I know in the heavy duty industry if a ticking is heard it’s most like in need of a valve set but my lb7 is make the same ticking noise what are the odds of it needing a valve set. All injectors are good.

Its definitely a possibility that they need to be set.

I'm getting just under 100psi in cylinder #4 on my 06 LBZ, but my mechanic believes it's a cracked piston. I run a BullyDog tuner and never go over 24lbs of boost and rarely ever get it that high, so I wonder why the cylinder cracked when do not push this truck, and it's only got 120k miles. Perhaps just a bad luck defective piston, but are there any other causes for sudden low compression and knocking? Thanks!
@screamindieselltd
3 жыл бұрын
Cracked piston, bent rod, rod bearing, wrist pin bushing would all cause a knock. Bent valves or pushrod you would get a “pop” out the intake or exhaust. That’s about all the at would cause low compression.

As for gaskets to do this.... A VC kit that includes upper, lower, bolt seals, and injector seats.. plus t-stat orings. Is this all thats needed? Or is their a gasket for the filter housing?
@screamindieselltd

Yup that’s pretty much all that’s needed. The gaskets for the filter housing are in the housing so you don’t take them apart at all.

Great video. Could my LB7 be in need of a valve adjustment? Currently smoking under load or acceleration. Injector balance rates are well within spec. Stock LB7 w/ 1.3 million miles. Valves were last done w/ head gaskets at 520k. No leaks in turbo system. I'm planning to do this valve lash adjustment, regardless.
@screamindieselltd

Valves being out don’t usually cause smoke under load and acceleration. That’s usually a turbo, plugged air filter, plugged fuel filter or injectors. Is there any smoke at idle? When you checked balance rates did you compensate for fuel rate? MM3?

@@screamindieselltd I have this issue on my lb7. Smoke on acceleration but not at idle. Injectors done 1 year and a half ago with Napa injectors. I checked air filter and not sure what’s causing smoke when accelerating. Not even a haze on a very cold day from exhaust.
