had a PO125 error code that said "insufficient coolant temp." and said to replace the thermostat. Followed your instructions and fixed the problem. My truck had been running on the cool side when the "check engine" light came on so the coolant now runs in the correct temperature. Saved myself a couple of hundred bucks. Thanks

This is perfect! I have what I think is a sticky thermostat on my 02 F150. Was getting intermittent heat, but recently, I've seen my temp go through the roof, then the spring must click free and I start getting hot air. Scary watching that needle top out like that though.

I would recommend soaking them with penetrating oil over the period of a month and then try using an impact on lower power to break them free. It may also be helpful to have the engine hot when you try to turn them out. I have not dealt with frozen bolts going into the cast aluminum before so I would be really careful and do a lot of research before you try anything. Usually there is a way to get them out if you are patient. Don't twist them off if at all possible. When you put them back on you can use a little anti seize to help them next time you need to take it apart. Hope that helps!

Liquid wrench,,,,wd-40,,,,pb-blaster,,,, doesn't even compare to what I use to get a stuck/frozen bolt, nut, a screw or anything else off. Use acetone (finger nail polish remover)-(you can get a can at auto zone) and also use ATF (automatic transmission fluid). Mix them in a spray bottle 50/50 and shake well before use. Then spray in a stream, not a mist, but a stream on whatever is stuck, wait about 5-10 minutes, and, it should come quite easily. Hope this helps. GOD BLESS all....

I know some older cars bleeding the air out was necessary. Is it necessary to do this in this truck? I changed my thermostat by draining about 1 1/2 gallons. Refilled the coolant and turned on the truck until coolant somewhat leveled off. Should I be fine just checking coolant level for the next few days and not having to do another sort of "bleeding "? Thanks

What can I do if the thermostat housing is completely seized/stuck? All three bolts have been removed (the two on the sides and the one on top) and it will not budge. I think I've tried everything but a torch. I even took the coolant hose off and stuck a breaker bar in for leverage and it still won't budge.

Dude that really sucks. Actually I am still having issues with mine as well. It just doesn't get very hot. Starting to wonder if my water pump has some damaged impellers or something. Did you get a lot of junk out when you flushed the heater core?

@@BenjaminSahlstrom kinda ..but I didn't run the prestone chemical through it will next time .. but the reason I replaced the radiator..it was running hot slightly..and the reservoir looked like brown slug..it was automatic transmission fluid all in the coolant system..so I flushed it 3 times ..1 time with the prestone chemical cleaner ..but it had heat problems when I got it from my dad ..I'm just wondering if it could be an election part or something...any ideas would be fantastic otherwise my brother in law and I are gonna take dash out and new heater core ....allso my tem gauge is always more on the cold side not in between

Any idea how to replace this with broken off bolts? Tried to take the intake manifold off to get to it that way but the manifold bolts are seized also and don't want to break them off too. About all I can think of is drill them out and use an extension tap to clean/rethread and use new bolts (assuming I can find them). 2000 5.4 Expedition.

Did changing the thermostat fix the poor heat issue? I've heard lots of these F-150's suffer from a broken heater core blend door that causes similar symptoms. I ask because my truck is having the same issue with poor heat and I'm unsure which direction to go first, thermostat or blend door. Thanks.
@FunkAdelik

This is 3 years later, but for anyone looking, I would recommend changing the thermostat first as the part is cheaper and it takes 30-60 minutes to do where the blend door can be an all day event.

A blend door cant distribute heat without hot water in the heater core. If hoses are not hot, replace t-stat first.

Thanks for the video. Dumb question: I've got no heat right now in my 99 4.6 XLT. Replaced the t-stat over the summer. Figured I left an air bubble so went and had it flushed. Still no dice. Both heater core hoses are cold , engine at normal temp (no overheating). Am I look at possibly a faulty thermostat?
