I had a 42ft back in 1998. She was the best most reliable Boat I've ever owned! Trailered he to many distance locations and always had a blast! She came with Triple 454's and her top speed was around 78 mph with a full load of fuel. Since then I sold her to my buddy who turned around had had a total make over done. Not that it needed one. She got new upholstery inside and out, new gauges, stereo upgrade new Garmin navigation system and new led lighting, new paint job and to top it off 3 brand new engines built by Sloppy Joes Racing. Talk about a total make over, she sounds like a John Force Dragster now! Enjoy your boat!

I had done the same drill with my son hundreds of times thru the years owning several performance boats. 500 efi’s with that boat will probably top out at 84-85 on your best day. They’re great motors. Needing to go faster becomes an obsession… but it’s so much fun!! Be safe and enjoy

Sweet boat! I grew up in Washington, NC. It was a common sound to hear Fountain boats out on the Pamlico River. About 20 years ago, I worked at the Wal-Mart Tire and Lube Express in Washington and met Reggie Fountain when he came in for tires on one of his cars!

Used to race Fountains and I'm a big believer in the trim tabs! I would have had them pushing the bow a little in the chop. Yes, speed is reduced but if your not trying to haul ass you can always tab down and ride in comfort. Congrats on the boat. She's a keeper! You might want to look into some kind of thread sealer for your upholstery, the sun does eat the thread quickly! OH, and don't use bleach to clean the upholstery!

Awesome boat love the American Flag! I see this was year ago so you probably figured it out by now, play with trimming the drives and the trim tabs to find the sweat spot, Reggie always said to go faster you have to get the boat out of the water, take a look at his videos!

May I ask a few questions? Do you do your own work ....ex: pull the outdrives, grease u-joints and splines, winterize....etc? Where do you keep such a large vessel and how much per month for storage if its not on your own property? Time for top end valve spring maintenance? And if you done mind, annual salary? Just a dream to own one of these and want to compare. Thanks

What props are you running. I have the same 2002 35 Lightning with different paint. I replaced my 500 efi's with custom built twin 600's. Not sure of top end because didn't really open up because of break in but hit 85. I boat in northern Michigan

85? If your mills are really 600's you should run 89-90 on a good day. Might want to check your dyno sheet and see what correction was used and what the coolant temp was. By comparison, a Merc 525 makes about 530-535 C_hp using SAE J1349 and the proper 180*F coolant temp. If your engine was measured using dyno headers, STP correction and 130-140*F coolant temps, you are looking at about 555-560 C_hp compared to a Merc.

For those of you who aren’t avid boaters and are looking into getting a boat and were looking at my rant below. I just finished watching the video and that boat was bouncing alot in what weren’t big waves for something that size which again is probably an average size boat…but to put things in perspective in regards to what I said below…if that was a 35/36 sundancer or boat like that…it wouldn’t have moved barely at all and with the right set up can cruise pretty close to it. Except you’d have room to cook, shower, watch tv and sit back and relax once you got to your destination. Although the fountain has a cabin its not set up the same at all and your giving up alot just to go 15-20mph faster….if that…so just do your homework b4 you buy. Don’t get me wrong these boats are fun but they get boring really quick

@@Motoman313 Forget it. He's just here to brag about what is seemingly some boats his parents or other family own. If he knew boats, he'd know that the 33' hull of that Fountain is very capable, yet he does not.

These boats are fun for about an hr. And really only good for lakes. You would think for a 35 foot boat it would handle the open ocean just fine as most 35’ would but not so much. Like he said 1-2ft chop. Its not bad but 3ft chop or even rollers (which if I remember correctly is when they’ll announce a small craft warning) not so much. If your going to buy one of these you really should have another boat to-take out after your 1-2 hrs of fun…unless you live on a lake but even then these boats are really just meant to go fast and for guys with small dicks to rev when they’re in a harbor…now I’m not saying everyone who owns one of these has a small wee wee just the tools who rev them when they’re in the harbor bc the knew ones have a feature where you can bury the exhaust so your not making that obnoxious he look at me noise. And to all you tools out there the answer is No! I’m not jealous. My family owns 3 boats all bigger that we keep in the water behind the house and take in the ocean. The only reason I’ve mentioned what I have about these is in case someone (which I’m sure theres a ton) on here watching these videos and thinking of getting a boat. They should really know what they’re getting into. I also should mention a couple other things 35 is not that big of a boat. Its good size don’t get me wrong. Having to trailer your boat is a pain in the ass and the last thing you want to do once you been on the water all day ( especially if you had some road sodas which I wouldn’t suggest bc many people don’t know if you get an oui on the water you lose your license on land. I know trailering is sometimes the only option as waterfront property and or a slip can be quite expensive. Lastly once you get in the 30-35ft range or above is when you really start to see the purchase prices of boats jump

Lol. When you grow up and get your own money for your own boat, then come back. Exactly what boats does your family own? I ask because it's interesting that they are kept in the water. I literally know no powerboat owner with respect for his boat that would keep anything nice in the water. No, you don't write what you write to be jealous, you write it to brag about property that is not even yours. A 35 Lightning may not be the biggest fish in the pond, but neither are you. The 35 runs well and if you think 2-3 feet waves for that 33' hull is the limit, you don't know the first thing about running a powerboat. People buy boats for the waters they boat in. For that Detroit area and many lake area sites, the 35 is a great boat with many days of fun to be had. Let me lay it out for you. You are a stuck up snotty little brat with nothing of your own to brag about. Until you have something of your own, you are in absolutely no position to go out and piss on someone else's parade. I dare you to go and show your post to your folks, because you probably already know they would think very little of you for saying what you said - unless they are as crude as you are. In short, your post stinks of new-money riff-raff. Here's a challenge for ya. Now go and shoot a quick 30 second vid of your own boats, not your family's property. If you can't, I suggest you stop flapping your spoiled jaw and stop embarrassing your family. Damn.Your post is by far the most embarrassing post I have read on KZitem in a long time. And just to be clear, I'm not jealous of you or your family. I used to do boats, but do cars these days, and they belong to me and my wife which we paid for with our own money.
