I own a 2002 WRX Sedan and it feels visceral, which is what I've always loved about the GD WRXs. I test drove a 2014 VA a few years ago and wasn't terribly impressed. It felt heavy, the seats were uncomfortable, and it felt kind of muted. Last year, I test drove a brand new VB. It was considerably more comfortable, suspension felt tight, but you could pretty much forget it had a turbo because the lag is tuned out. I think that if you're looking for a new, reliable sporty car, the new WRX holds up. It doesn't feel hand-holdy like most of the other (few) new manual sport sedan/hatch vehicles do.

I think I’ve got the Unicorn in the country. Completely stock, ‘02 bugeye wagon bought new 11/01 (when I was 40) and with 74k west coast miles. Just had a rare (per my low annual miles) maintenance and it’s purring like a champ. Love its simple, connected, analog spirit, boost and easy ride. It even arrived stateside where I was born, Vancouver WA, so I think it’s kinda destiny. The new ones, though a great drive, don’t excite me.

Honestly, if I could find a low miles all stock 02 wrx, I would absolutely love that. I got mine in 2009 with 100k miles on it. I modded it and kind of beat on it, like a 20 year old kid would do. I do miss it for its direct driver to car feel. That's why I built my 66 mustang with all modern drive train but keeping the manual brakes, cable clutch and cable throttle.

Hey guys, I'm going to be looking at an 02 WRX Impreza exactly like the black one in the video. The interior looks great it just needs some tidying up. The engine bay looks spotless and there are only a few rust spots on the exterior but they're as solid as can be. It has 150k miles but the price the guys asking for is a decent amount below my current budget for buying a car. That being said, I won't have any problems reinvesting into the car if there are any problems. There was only one previous owner but I also live in Illinois so I want to do something to protect it from the rust as well. Do you guys think it would be a good buy? I appreciate your time and the video comparing the two was killer 👍

I just picked up an 02 WRX for 2 grand. Put about $100 into a good tune up. For the price I cannot complain. The newer versions are a bit too soft and I also don't like the technology in my cars ( more to break) plus with aftermarket support, I could smoke a new one for less than 1/4 of the price

Have the '02 bugeye now for 19 years and with 205k miles on original motor. Test drove a 2022 to see if it's time to let 'old blue' go and was not all that impressed. Obviously, the superior tech, refinement, and suspension make the new car smell that much better, but one key difference for me was that the gear ratios allowed for higher rpms on my '02 where as the '22 I felt forced to shift a bit sooner than I normally would (perhaps part of carbon emissions regs). Also, I never realized just how much I loved the sound of that classic deep boxer rumble until I heard the new one. Old bugeye wins in my book!
@4WDTrek
Жыл бұрын
I do miss the mechanical feel of it all in the 02. And the sound of the unequal length headers to make that rumble. But for power band, the new one definitely takes it. Pulls harder and sooner. Can definitely tell the difference.
