The reason for no code numbers in the BCM is because there are none to give. The factory DRB3 will also do the same. Back in those days there was no concern for code numbers since there were so few codes to actually display.

I just bought Paul's book. It's great, good clear pics and print. Brief descriptions and to the point. Well written with lots of detail applicable to systems from many makes, models, and years. A few years ago I had a 99 dakota that did the same thing with the connector. No Bus on the odometer. 5v missing at the TPS. I drove it while I waited for a 'new' $100 PCM from the boneyard. Hot weather made mine worse. It died 2x driving to pick up the replacement part. PCM had the same programming numbers as the old one. Many Chrysler/Dodge PCMs use the same hardware, but are programmed differently for different models. The software program numbers are on a sticker on back. Did not program it for the vin. Everything has worked fine for 3 years since replacing it (knocks on head).

2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee (4WD) Thanks for posting this video. Helped me troubleshoot and fix an issue. Wound up being a bad ECM. Had issue with coolant sensor, intermittent key/speedometer working. Fuel pump was not pumping intermittently when turning on ignition, etc. Also, cherokee wasn't running good, it wasn't idling at 1,000 RPM as it should, was more like 500 RPM and stalling out occasionally. Your wiggle test was effective, heard some relays clicking when applying pressure to harness bundle attached to ECM ports. Ordered a pre-programmed unit giving my VIN and ECM part #. Slapped it in and Jeep turned right over and runs great. Coolant sensor warning light went out too. Thanks Guys !!!

I am on Long Island . Flagship One is about 10 miles away . There is a local college radio station with an automotive show , Motormouth Radio 90.3 FM . One of the hosts who works in a shop said they have used them with good results . There is also South Bay Fuel Injectors about 15 miles away . They were a guest on the show . In the next county there are two long time carburetor rebuilders . One also does throttle bodies . I had bushings done on a GM that had excessive play in the shaft .

Nice case study! Always a little disappointing not to see the board under a scope, but these days there isn't much that can be done. Maybe a 17 year old board would be different, it would be so cool to see a solder joint fixed. As you say, it is much more efficient for a pro to go straight to a replacement. Once again, you point out a lack of basic checks that may have saved the owner from purchasing a fuel pump had the other original shop correctly performed basic checks. Then gave the problem to Pete. 😂 Thank you once again for a valuable lesson on basic checks, oh and airbag modules! 🤣😂🤣

I came across very unusual case!!! I had to go rescue my wife 60 miles away !! Stalls, no code, no start!!! I just previously repaired short in fuel injectors harness.. when I got there, it fired right up, doubled checked computer diagnostic, everything perfect. (Crap!! ) chance drive straight home? Or let local dealer double diagnose that I missed?? Well!! It’s Sunday... head for home!! Stalls every 10 so miles.. let cool off.. stalls ... keep going.. finally ARRIVED HOME!! Wife took my car for work. I doubled checked fuel pressure, perfectly 55psi. Ran it, good 20 so mins.. perfect!! Well!! Caught my eye!!! Color of fuel !! YELLOW!!! Showed my wife... when she got home...showed her differences in regular gas and fuel out of her car...she said... SOMEBODY PEED IN MY FUEL TANK??? Told her that’s LOTTA PEE!! It’s FLEX FUEL!! She accidentally refilled the tank with flex fuel.... we had to keep refilling tank till it’s gone.. ( I had to tell you this story, figured you guys get kick out of this!!) there’s no short!! Replace the FUEL!!

I know reflashes rank right up there with smoke tests for you and I wanted to see this one kick your ass only to find out it would likely only need a VIN rewrite with your scan tool. Do you know in a Diesel, exact time under common rail when injector fires. Seems like no one knows. Is it after TDC or before. Does it change by ecm and injector on time via crank signal. Not even Bosch repair centre know. Very sad.
@ScannerDanner
3 жыл бұрын
I know they fire on the compression stroke which is why you have 30000 psi of fuel psi available at the tip of the injector, otherwise compression pressures would prevent an injector from opening
@jamesbarratt593
3 жыл бұрын
I rang my engine builders and they did not know. They told me to ring an injector firm near them in the other part of UK. The guy himself was shocked people did not know. He said its easy. He said Injection pulse is timed off the crank, and theres no exact place it fires in. My logic though is if the air is compressing and you dont want an explosion before tdc is that the explosion has to be afterwards. The injector guy said I was wrong though. And its before tdc. I cant believe that. As if you ise ethanol easy start and spray too mich in air filter on crank it can go bang as pistons climbing. The sound of con rods and everything taking the extreme forces the wrong way is horrible. Bang after tdc has to be the only way it works
@ScannerDanner
3 жыл бұрын
@@jamesbarratt593 injection timing on a diesel IS your "ignition timing" and it absolutely sprays during the compression stroke (BTDC). The amount of fuel and timing of the fuel is everything. Due to the time it takes to complete the burn, you have to start it before TDC. In the books, any flame that is still burning by about 22 degrees after TDC is just creating heat and is not helping.
@jamesbarratt593

Those chrysler ECU's are pretty robust. I have seen similar issues...but considering some of the places they mounted those things over the years...they have stood the test of time. The issues ive seen similar i always attributed to a bad solder joint on the pcb to the pin. As Danner mentioned...you can't exactly crack them open and check since they are filled. Board repair being my specialty...it always bugged me that i couldn't just reflow the pins for an easy fix. Either way...good find. These are always my favorite. Also worth mentioning...that connector clearly goes primarily to the cluster and power distribution...and NOT the engine...which explains why you still had your 5V ref and didn't have comms to only the PCM and cluster.
