Disclaimer: attempt this at your own risk. This is not the recommended fix per FSM. I'm not responsible for any damage to your engine.
I experienced some hesitation issue when the engine is in low RPM, also the truck felt sluggish with increased MPG. Finally the check engine light came on for P0107 (low barometric pressure in intake manifold) but the MAP sensor has no issue. So I narrowed it down to leak in the intake manifold. One solution is to remove the valve completely, but I love that low down torque especially when offroading 😁
Few things I need to mention but didn't in the video:
The rods are NOT identical in length. 3.8 rod is longer by about .5 inch (3:36 mark on the video I said they're identical but they're not!)
In the video I didn't use the rod from KIA rod, I reused 3.8 rod and end cap
I used the bushings AND O-ring from Kia surge tank
Part you will need is KIA Sorento surge tank (part# 29222-39800QQK).
You will re-use majority parts from 3.8L surge tank:
Butterfly valves
Rod
End rod cap
Plastic plug (where the o-ring goes)
Plastic plug pin
You will also need surge tank gasket and intake manifold gasket. I reused mine and so far no leak. I tested it for 200 miles under several driving conditions from 30 minutes sitting still think to several wide open throttle pull on freeways. During the test I noticed that the low-end power increased, might be due to the fact that now the bushings are sealing properly. Higher end has no changes at all. I will continue to monitor the bushings condition as I put more mileage, but from my short testing I can conclude that this fix definitely works. This video is a one-take so you'll see me finding and trying to figure things out.
