Alright so we're back.........2 months later.
Today we're walking through a steering rack replacement on a 3rd generation TL. We're going to break up this up into 3 main sections.
Section 1: Under the hood
We start off with removing the front strut brace. With that out of the way we will have enough room to work behind the engine. While up top remove the mounting bolts for the steering rack, remove the 10mm bolts that hold various brackets to the steering rack itself and disconnect the steering linkage from inside of the car (10mm bolt).
Section 2: Remove wheels
Raise the car up and remove the front wheels. Disconnect the outer tie rods from steering knuckle.
Section 3: Under the Car
Underneath the car remove the under engine shields. Remove the bracket that holds the sub frame to the body on the drivers side of the cr. It will be behind the strut area. Then remove the the lower bolts for the rear motor mount that are located in between the exhaust pipe and the sub frame. If easy you can remove the exhaust pipe. Start unbolting the front subframe from the body of the car. Leave the front 2 bolts connected to the body. This will keep the engine in your car! Lower the sub frame until you have roughly 2 inches of space between the rear sub frame and the body of the car(the sub frame will drop that amount). Then you should have enough space to twist the steering rack and pull it out through the drivers side. Once out swap over any components that are not on the new rack. After all that installation is in reverse. Get an alignment once this is done!
