Para-Dice Rider I just found out I might need an oil pump...no big deal I said...mechanic said ummm it is, the pump is $110 CDN but 10 hours to put it in....seems you have to pull the whole front of the engine off because it's behind the timing chain... What the hell happened to pulling the pain off, remove 4 bolts, putting the new pump back on, putting the pan on? an hour job tops..... There is NO reason it MUST be on the front of the crank.....no reason whatsoever.....100's of millions of engines ran fine with them mounted to the bottom of the crank....

I got the top 4 out and broke the first bottom one, now I have to raise the engine to get the other 3 out,stuck on the broken one. I never thought of the guide jig, good one, I built it up with the stick welder and just set the mig up to use gas to weld a nut on, another video recommended flux core but the gas would be a lot cleaner weld. I should use the Tig.

Doing mine right now...you can get to the front lower with long extension and swivel from the bottom front, just inside frame rail. Second one back can be gotten to with about 4” of extension straight to socket inside frame rail, or a long one from underneath rear, I.E. up through starter hole.

It's to bad you didn't show how you removed the heat shield. You will not get a deep well socket onto the front top two studs, you will have to use a semi deep socket. I have so far removed all the exhaust manifold nuts and studs from the engine without breaking a one, knock on wood. I soaked them with Deep Creep and map gas to heat everyone. Then I used a 3/8 impact wrench to remove the nut, sometimes the stud came out with the nut. If the stud is remaining then I heated the stud and used a stud removing tool to remove the stud. Your video is however outstanding. UPDATE I really had a problem trying to remove the front bottom stud. The nut came off but left the stud in the block. I tried using a short extractor but then twisted the stud and it was still in there. I then used a long impact socket and finally got it out. I removed one at a time and replaced the stud and nut with a stainless steel kit from Metric Screw. I don't want to have to do this again. If I have to remove the exhaust manifolds to replace them then it will be a lot easier. If and when I have to remove them then I will send them out to Jet Hot Ceramic coating and I won't have to do that ever again.

I recently worked on my 2007 F150...exhaust manifold. A trick I used....the top starter bolt is a nightmare..so I took a saw zall and cut the back end of the manifold off. Then I could get right at the top starter bolt from the top. I took out the back two studs top and bottom. I then cut the manifold in half with a saw zall. Tapped on it with a hammer and it fell to the red floor. This now gives you room to work on the next one at the shock tower

Have you had two studs break off right next to each other or one away? That is what I am dealing with now and with the tool only one bolt would hold it in place so it wouldn't be "held" centered, I'd so what did you do. Also you probably know and obviously what you did worked but for others watching if you drill very slow when drilling in steel it drills much better/faster than drilling fast.

Same in NJ. A number of folks, including South Main Auto pretty much have agreed that most dealers don't even want to do the job so they price themselves out of the realm of reasonable. my brother is a mechanic and he said he torches the nuts and studs off. He then removes the manifold and uses an extractor to screw out the studs. I don't know, because I haven't done it. I am planning on it soon, at his garage. I will let you know.
@ITUMBLE4U

Sounds like a good idea if he leaves enough for the extractor to bite into once the manifold is off. I bought a torch, the tool mentioned in this video and some gator bite (I think that's what they're called) sockets. I have a nice Miller MIG welder to try the nut trick if I break off a drill bit in there. My truck has original manifolds (I'm guessing by the look of them) and it has 225,000 miles. Like I mentioned, I'm going to have to wait till it warms up a bit...look forward to hearing how it goes for you. My manifolds from 1AAuto showed up tonight with one of them broken . They're sending a replacement out tomorrow.
