I woke up at 4AM on a cool, rainy evening to the sound of my 1st Gen Pilot's alarm blaring: "HONK, HONK, HONK!" Did someone attempt to break in? Was anything stolen? Nope... In fact, all looks fine. Reset the alarm and guess what happens 5 minutes later? Yep... Something is broken, but what?
It turns out to be a bad sensor in the tailgate lock. When humid, wet, and somewhat cool, the sensor grounds out and the car thinks a door has been opened - hence the alarm. The video walks through the steps to replace the sensor. Note: this happened to me about a year ago and I replaced the sensor with a junk yard piece. It worked, but only for about a year.
Brand new from Honda, this part cost me about $50 including shipping. I've seen them on Ebay for more than that for a used part, so buyer beware.
