Good video, you are correct, no one has made a video on this, I also cracked my boot during driveshaft removal and eventually broke the whole thing apart. I was able to get all the parts including the backing plate and gasket from FCPeuro. I had such a hard time separating the driveshaft from the input flange, the CV eventually broke apart and I was able to hammer the crap out of the CV housing to get it off the flange.

How did you get the cv joint off of the old driveshaft to replace it? Mine went bad and they tried to get me to buy a whole new drive shaft. Unfortunately for mine, they’re extremely rare in my area and a new one will run me $500+

Use a puller. I think I used a two jaw puller.

Is the plate cover really necessary? Some models do not have them.

I know this reply is super late but you know the kind of grease I used was just standard semi-synthetic Valvoline bearing grease like . Just grease and a can

What kind of bolts can u use for the cv joint?
@uniquehometours6912

I'm terribly sorry for not replying! The bolts I used were the stock bolts but I had a friend go to the You pull It salvage yard and he was able to get the bolts from a car that still had a driveshaft and it was a 5 series similar year and they fit his car

My cv joint binds ... isnt it supposed to move freely ?
@JohnFaire
4 жыл бұрын
Mine binds too. Went to junk yard today, and tested 2 others. 1st one binded just like mine. Took the cap off, filled with wet grease. So, that was inconclusive. 2nd one, moved more freely than the other, and better than mine, but it had a slight amount of binding, not as smooth as an axle CV joint anyhow. So, I opened that one up, and it was dry with barely any grease. So, IDK how it supposed to be... Wish this guy showed how its supposed to feel when new... Found this general info online "The CV joints at the front wheels feature a spherical housing, which allows for up to 45 degrees turning, while those at the differentials and rear wheels are planar, allowing for only a small angular variation and a few millimeters extension or retraction" So I guess it's only supposed to articulate very slightly

@@JohnFaire mine is also having a problem turning. there is no way i can do a whole circle, it just gets stuck, and it is the same OEM part from the same box as the one from this video. Any of you two got more wisdom in last couple of yearsa? Should I send it back and ask for my money? My shaft was balanced (with this part removed for some reason) and it is still shaking when i put it all back together. Old part was also not possible to turn the whole circle which means it was producing vibrations. SO I have no idea what to do now. Google is not helping o this one... So please....
