Styles vs. Joe over the Unbreakable three-way? A man of taste, I see.

Considering how laughable the "Once in a Lifetime" tagine was when WWE promoted Rock/Cena even though they did the rematch anyway, its incredible that Kobashi only faced Samoa Joe & Kensuke Sasaki ONCE and both are still considered all-time classics is simply phenomenal. Considering Kobashi's body went through so much hell by that point, its certainly a reason you can make a case why Kobashi is an all-time great.

I think the Aura is what was the thing that brought people in to Cena vs Rock. But Kobashi v Joe while obviously being a stellar match also had the added aura factor. It's one of those matches where you could just be looking at a blank screen and only have crowd noise yet still be entertained.

I also didn't really get Butcher vs. Joe at first. I was really into Joe and I loved hardcore wrestling but upon rewatching it this year I loved it.

Honestly I'm happy to see somebody who agrees with me, it'd the year I got the privilege to watch non WWE products thanks to The Wrestling Network in the UK,ROH and NOAH felt like the greatest wrestling I had ever watched and even TNA put on some of its most deffonitive moments to date. Also the year where Bryan Danielson became my favorite wrestler of all time, to use a phrase: Bryan Danielson is built different

Part of why you could not find for Joshi wrestling, is that joshi was nearly dead at the time. The late 90's was horrible for wrestling the world over, but joshi were hit pretty damn hard. And in 2005, the two biggest Joshi companies in the world, AJW and Gaea, both folded. There are very little recorded Joshi matches in the decade until like 2006-7

2005 was the year I came back to wrestling, mainly due to ROH. They brought a product which was so different, so passionate and way more appealing than anything on domestic TV at the time. I feel like you captured that well in this video. Their highs at the top of the card were so damn good, it usually blew away anything else happening anywhere in the world at the time. Also very glad you spotlighted this part...watching those early Danielson vs Strong matches on DVD several weeks after they happened was magical. That's how I was properly introduced to both guys and they each remain as my favorite workers to this day. Their trilogy really solidified Danielson's ROH title reign and set the table for his incredible 2006 run as champion. Danielson really got to lean into his natural charisma and show off a different type of heel style starting here. I think these matches and Strong's contributions are underappreciated and overlooked.

I feel like 2005 especially for WWE was easily one of their best it has one of my all-time favorite Wrestlemania matches in HBK vs Kurt Angle and my personal favorite Survivor Series elimination match

If I had an honorable mentions list, it would be full of WWE matches. Elimination Chamber, JBL/Cena, Michaels/Benjamin, Batista/Triple H, all great.

Though I'd honestly argue that HBK's selling of the ankle lock made the match even better, I also dont think there was any disputing who the best wrestler of 2005 was lmao
