This car succeeded at what its goal was- its a great car for its use case: A taxi/police car, A rental car, A car for people who don't care about cars and want a cheap reliable and comfortable car. They clearly don't understand what it was for- I cant tell you how many the dealer I worked at sold to fleet. Take any taxi back then and it was ether a ford of one of these. Back when this was being made they sold as many as something like an accord- This car is about simple robust reliability. The accords and Toyota's has weak suspensions that just cant stand up to NY streets like the impala can every day for 300k. I will admit they are defined by the word spongy, though.

I just sold my 99 Jeep Cherokee and bought a used 08 Impala LTZ. It's the 3rd vehicle I've owned and I'm in love with it! I literally went from a beater to a NICE used car. Coming from a 90s vehicle, I can't compare to other new cars but now as a used car, It's so nice to me. It's the first car I've ever had with cruise control, remote keyless entry, heated leather, 18" wheels, and a nice sound system. Unlike the test car in the video, my drivers seat back is powered. The ride and steering are so smooth, and I'm really looking forward to taking a trip and killing some miles in it. I'm 5'8" and I can sit in the back seat with lots of room for my legs and feet. It's a good size vehicle all around. I do as much work on my vehicles as I can, so I appreciate the simplicity in the engine compartment. There's a good bit of room to work in there. I have the 3.9L engine and I'm averaging 27-28 mpg, since I don't drive much in the city. Consumer Reports is welcome to think whatever they want about this style of Impala, but they can't change the fact that I can count at least 6 of them in my neighborhood town of several hundred people. It's not hard for me to see why these cars are so popular. Imports don't sell in the numbers that domestic cars do in my area. The big three reign around here.

Also the fake wood grain was updated and looks a lot nicer. Even the base, LS models in 2012 got standard alloy rims instead of steel rims and hubcaps. The grill was changed to mesh looking and the back strip by the brake lights was changed to body color instead of chrome. Basically from 06-13 they all look the same, hard to tell diff.

I had a 2004 Impala base model and now I have a 2010 LS. I liked the style better on the 00-05's than the 06-13's. The 06-13 just looks generic, not ugly, but boring. I did notice right away that the interior room was better in the 04, it seemed wider too. The backseat is tight in both models, but worse in the 06-13's. Also the 2010 has worse visibility due to small side mirrors and a high trunk with a small window. Besides that the 2010 is much improved over the 2004, making it funner to drive

The backseat in this Impala is a joke. Its very small considering how large the car is. If someone is a taller driver than the backseat passengers have even less room. If someone is a backseat passenger on the taller side they wouldn't be too comfortable sitting in the backseat. It really makes no sense considering this is supposed to be a family sedan. Besides that this Impala is very roomy inside otherwise.

No one should get overly concerned about these comments. You have to drive the car for yourself to make a decision whether you'd like one, or not. Personally, 2012 is getting a re-design, so that's something to consider as well. However, there's a lot of comments online about common issues (like any car) and it's something to consider. It's 2010, you're looking back on a '06. Yeah, there's going to be some things that stand out as OLD lol

I agree with this video FULLY, my parents have a 10' LT. So what if my BMX bike fits in the truck, my 6'1" body doesn't fit in the rear seat. My 00' LS fits a bike in the trunk & 2 tall ppl in the back with better mpg's, more fun as well. I don't like the look either, reminds me of a curved Mailbu with no style. I know when I see a 00-05 Impala, day or night. I hope the 14' is better but its still FWD, Buick has the AWD(same motor same GM just different bolts).Make a RWD V-8 or something special

The Chevy Impala is one of the best used car values on the market. Since there are tons of rental car Impala's out there GM has got to sell them through auction at a good price to the dealerships that resell them. The result is that if you shop around you can save a ton off a new one. Mileage on the highway is fantastic. It rides well, has great safety ratings, and is very quiet. Best of all we have had no problems with our 2009 that we bought used one year ago.

Owned a 2007 Impala ls and put 250.000 miles on it with no major problem. The water pump and power steering pump was easily changed by my son in the garage. Sadly another car took out my frontend. Started looking for another car and now the proud owner of a 2010 LT with 111.000 miles. Looking forward to a long love affair.

I swear this guy must have woke up in the morning deciding he was going to hate this car. It's pretty obvious that this is not an honest review. I drive one everyday. None of the complaints that he talked about our even remotely true. The car drives, and handles well. It also gets really decent fuel mileage. And it's just as quiet as most of the full-size vehicles that I've driven like it.

Jay Cee I have a 2013 LTZ with everything..I like it a lot..(at least right now I do) .. cuz it new to me.. but I have to agree with everything this guy said about this car. he doesn't hate this car "because it's a Chevy" he hates it for all of the reasons he said.. if Chevy had made this vehicle a better more optimised car he would have told us exactly what that car would have been like. he was just being honest! ..and let - us- be honest, he is right about this car.

Im 29 years old and bought one of these brand new back in 2013 the exact color of this one actually. Still have the car and drive it almost daily. I wanted a vehicle that was reliable and full sized. It dosnt have the zip of some of the four cylinder cars I test drove or dosnt have the style. But If I was going to spend money on a new car I wanted quality and reliability which is what this car is in my experience anyway. Some say its an old person car, I say is a car of someone that chooses reliability over vanity.

the one thing it has is safety. my 2000 walked a way from being rear ended with a minor crack in the bumper (which was rotted anyway) and absorbed hitting a deer pretty well, with only a slightly cracked grill and dented hood. it's ugly and slow but it can take a hit

Test drove a 2007 LTZ. Loved it and I'm a Ford guy. The 3.9 engine still averages 24 mpg while getting close to 250 HP and 245 TQ. Official 0-60 time is 6.9 seconds, but I'm sure that with better tires and a few minor upgrades such as a better exhaust system and a cold air intake, it could easily get to the 6.0-6.4 range.

As far as it goes..I'd most likely (90% sure) choose the impala unless i lived in town and made a lot of short trips. But! Here's the deal, the GM has more interior electrical gremlins. The blend door actuators go bad on these at a higher rate than Ford vehicles in the same class. But they're easy to change. Get a 5.5 mm socket. You'll never need it for anything else. Here's how I'd keep from having to change it. Put the temperature on a year round temperature and leave it alone! If my AC works good my car temp is set on 70-71 year round. If the AC isn't that cold I'd set it at 68 and might vary the heat temp if it's really cold. So you could have a summer setting and a winter setting. When the rear window defroster quits you'll need to get under the sill on the front right and you'll find a connector and a wire that has burned. GM cheaped out there. There was enough to carry the voltage to that connection but then the wires coming after were lower gauge. Get some wire from the auto parts and cut out the charred part if your whole car doesn't burn and make a bridge. Chevy will be easier to fix but expect some stupid things like that. I don't think they ever got their later 4 cyl turbos ever fixed. It's either replacing a busted head or a whole engine. But heres to hoping they did. I wouldn't pick a car with a turbo unless we're talking MB diesel, an old Saab (pre GM) old Volvo (pre Ford) or Mitsubishi or 3/4 ton truck and above. *uhhh..she didn't ask me. I wasn't part of that choice. So I'm hoping they have better than average out of their choice but I wouldn't hold my breath. I'd follow owner's manual to the T. And I'd try to do some research about potential and if the aforementioned potential is there I'd try to keep the miles down and trade asap.

I will admit you do loose a lot of power with a push rod engine, but the good ol' Chevy Impala push rod engines are very reliable. So that makes up for the lose in power in my opinion.

He's right about the back seat, it is extremely tight for such a large car. Plenty of room in the front seats, thought. And the trunk is large. The new 2014 Impala is amazing, though. Everything about the new one is outstanding, except that rear visibility is tight (that's my only complaint).

I used to own a 08 Impala LT 3.5L that had 168k miles on it before it was totaled. I got another 08 impala LT but its a 3.9L. Its a reliable car with efficient gas use. Now the HP sucks as its like 229HP & yea the backseat is condensed but maintaining it is cheap & it gets me around.

I have a new LTZ and I love it. I was set on the Accord, but some nice incentives from GM won me over. Rear leg room isn't all that great but it's usable. The 3900 V6 has good get up and go, but as as an automotive enthusiast I would like to see more power come out of such a large displacement. The 4 Speed auto isn't bad either it revs a little loud but the torque and horse is ample. But I did test drive the Malibu and the handling was better than the Impalas, and body roll was reduced.

STRONGLY considered buying a 2016 impala LTZ limited (same exact late 2000's cop car styling rather than the brand new ones from 2014)... Until I looked at so many other pre owned/used cars that offered INFINITELY more for the price; much less better fuel efficiency!

This review is very negative and somewhat subjective. It focuses almost completely on minor perceived shortcomings. This is a solid car even though it may not have all the fancy, necessary features of competing sedans. In all the areas where it really counts this is a good car. I got one in 2005 when they first released and now 8 years and 160,000 miles later I haven't had to do anything but fix an AC leak.

The bias in this review is so horrible it's actually funny. Most 4-cylinders give more power? Really? The LZE 3500 V6 has about 211 horsepower and 216 pounds-feet of torque, guaranteed no naturally aspirated four-pot on the market gets anywhere near that. Sure, a Honda or Toyota V6 is way smoother and more powerful, but they also cost more. The base 4 cylinder engines in both the Camry and the Accord are ridiculously anemic, not adept at moving those big cars.

he dont mention the new designed suspension and that the pushrod engine has vvt, the first for any pushrod engine and it gets 21 city 32 highway a camry gets 22 city 33 highway only 1 mpg more, and the camry four cylinder isnt even close to the pushrod v6 it puts down 179hp and the impala 3.5l v6 puts down 211hp & the four cylinder doesnt have half the torque of the impala, and the 3.5 is only the base engine the 3.9 has 240hp camry v6 268 but dont forget about the impala ss with a 304hp v8

The cab company I worked for had a series of Impalas. The first series was junk with the most unreliable transmission imaginable and really poor cabin electronics. The second series (like the car tested)was a much nicer car for the driver, but a trunk that looks big and is small from a practical standpoint with lousy access means you are really limited if suitcases are involved. The interior is designed only with front passengers in mind. If you doubt the bad review, check out the resale value.
