Hate it all you will it will still gap any prior Monte Carlo (in terms of stock ones that is). Not to mention a good 80% of the hate for it stems from people claiming Monte Carlo was always a muscle car when the designers and gm themselves said Monte Carlo (of all generations) was never designed as a muscle car and instead as a personal luxury coupe. It got that V8 because it absolutely needed it to get it's butt up and go. The last generation Monte Carlo get an ungodly amount of unjust hate imo, the ones with the 3.8L Buick are stupid reliable and make enough power to be comfortable daily drivers and reasonably quick (for it's era at least) while not chugging fuel. Put it on cruise control at 75-90 and cruise multiple states and it's pleasant, daily city or country drive? Pleasant. It's a good looking and relatively cheap car now that's very reliable and like I said, a majority of people who hate it either never driven or owned one or are possibly too young to have even been alive when they were sold (my god that one actually terrifies me)

@@Somanybeats id beg to differ. In terms of business it was better as fwd. I say this because it made manufacturing easier as it shared a platform and drivetrain with the Impala (hell even insurance companies insure it as a 2 door sedan because of this). Not to mention when it was introduced that would've eaten into Camaro/firebird sales and when it got the V8 it would've ate Corvette sales as it was a sedan sized coupe with a big trunk, non cruel and unusual punishment back seats, and was cheaper than the Corvette (iirc before the V8 came around the top trim was slightly above the v6 Camaro but at or just below the v6 firebird and never cost more than the Corvette when it got the V8). Plus when this thing came around gm was already and had scrapped a fwd Camaro/firebird and Ford had attempted a fwd mustang (Ford probe) but only scratched it after backlash. Inorder to get rwd it would've had to be its own platform, gouge firebird, Camaro, and Corvette sales, and cost more because of those reasons.

In my opinion, General Motors made yet another big boo boo when they used one of their oldest front wheel drive transmissions and put it in the SS and is supposed to be a HEAVY DUTY transmission and that my friends is nothing but a JOKE and that JOKE cost the owners about $3000. 00 ish dollars. I truly believe they (GM) is going backwards where engineering and overall quality just is not a concern at the General anymore in my humble opinion…

Chevy dropped the ball by not making this a REAR WHEEL DRIVE car. Typical GM buffoonery..... 1:28
