Thank you so much for posting this video! I'm a 32 year old woman that has zero experience with working on vehicles. You're video helped me replace my resistor with no problem at all! The part was only $12! Thanks for making such a clear and easy video. You're awesome!! (My blower just went out yesterday so I'll be fixing that next 🙊) Hopefully it's as easy as the resistor!

Thanks for commenting Since you change the resister out by yourself I am confident that you can change that blower motor out just be sure to disconnect your battery remove that black Kick panel that’s located right under the glove box area that I showed in the video Also remove the glove box again so that you have clear access to that blower and look straight up from the floor area and you’ll see 3 T20 star it’s right along the edges of the blower motor assembly those are the screws that hold your blower motor in ,Be sure to disconnect the wiring harness at the blower kind a like you disconnected the wiring harness at the resister same principle, As a safety precaution DONOT turn the blower motor on unless it is securely installed they spin with a lot of force they are powerful and they can cause serious injury so DONOT turn that blower motor on unless it is securely installed into the blower motor housing. It’s just like having a fan with no cover on it it can cut and do serious damage just a warning

Add the cabin air filter to keep mice / leaves / junk out of the blower (and your cabin air). Takes about 10 minutes. Factory design has the cabin air filter _base_ built in but for some reason Jeep doesn't add the filter itself standard!! I've installed on both my 2010 GC with no issues; and I change it every year in October. This kit comes with the cover, a filter, and instructions. I never had to take the wiper plate all the way out, just pull enough of the edging loose to get that side to where you can pry it up out of your way. smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00522PH36/

Great job. I had no blower on my 2010 Laredo and got a blower and a resistor. I figured I had to get the glove box out to change the resistor. I could not figure out how to get it out so I disconnected the motor and plugged in the new one. It worked well so I went the rest of the way and replaced it. The blower now works fine and I have a spare resistor. I also now know how to remove the glove box. Thanks!

Dude ..... helped me out huge. Thanks so much. Now, what I thought was a bad blower motor ..... turned out to be something a bit odd ! A small field mouse must have hitched a ride got into vent area and fell into the spinning basket of the blower, this hot summer day, and was spun to death. The off balanced basket made one hell of a rumble. Two days later some odd smell ...... then using your video-put new blower in and the mousified one I just trashed. Cleaned up everything With solvent in Vent area. All good. Thanks a bunch.

Wow!!! Thanks a lot!!! Bill Linnings and Matthew Stuart... On yesterday morning, Saturday, January 19, 2019, my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited's Heater Blower went out on what I felt to be the very first "coldest day" of the year in the area within where we live. Oddly enough, however, after I had started my vehicle up that morning and as I was pulling out into the street from my driveway, the throttle "stuck" [at full throttle] and took me straight across this somewhat busy street in front of my house and into the ditch full of 10" plus of fresh snow on the other side. Still at full throttle, I "struggled" to get my bearings while at the same time having a completely "snowed out" windshield because I did not [expect to] have the windshield wipers turned on. I continued plowing through the over 10 inches of snow in the ditch until I finally gathered my senses, took a sharp turn to the left to get back on the road, and was able to do so with very little effort. When my vehicle hit the top of the road, however, it began spinning in another direction which was the other snowed in ditch on the other side of the road... In order not to end up in that ditch, and noticing a car approaching from the opposite direction, I was finally somehow able to regain control of my JGC, allow the throttle to "spring back" to a normal position, and continue on with my intended early morning appointment... Relevancy of all this you may all be asking? Well it turned out that in order to seek some kind of warmth, mice had crawled up into my vehicle's engine compartment and somehow became entangled within the the throttle body cable linkage. They also somehow got into the "squirrel cage" of my heater blower motor. So after I turned on the heat that morning to warm up my car, they must have been thrashed to death during the blower motor's operation because I did have a functioning heat system for a short while beforehand... At any rate, after viewing this video and reading all of the related [and unrelated] comments, it now appears that I have some work ahead of me to do, however, taking much less time than originally expected. Thanks again everyone...

Great job. My shop manual does NOT show the side lock in the disassembly instructions, which slowed me down since I wasn't looking for it. Note that the fan drops down from the HVAC vent with the three screws. Don't get confused by the large enclosure and clips: the fan assembly fits inside the vent enclosure. And a bonus: the vent actuator next to the console was clicking and this provides clear access to it for replacement as well.!

my 05 grand cherokee blows perfectly cold and hard when it is blowing, but every other month or so it acts up and doesn’t blow any air at all for about a day or two... then miraculously starts working again, would this be the resistor? like i said when it is blowing, it blows perfectly fine so don’t think it’d be the motor itself
@shawnj2313

justin davis yes I think it might be the resistor
@ttocsmij

On models with the automatic temperature control feature, the "resistor" is actually a frequency controlled switch. In tech terms, the heating / cooling panel control module sends a PWM signal to the "resistor" which then varies the average voltage to the blower motor to control the blower motor speed. All that to say, it is quite possible the "resistor" is beginning to fail ... or the panel control module may be starting to fail (hopefully not because that is $$$$) ... or one of the controls (i.e., knobs) is may be starting fail (also $$$$). So, what was it? Curious minds and all. ^_^
@justindavis9034

ttocsmij turned out to be the blower itself, found it out because if i slapped the under the glove box(right below the blower) it would kick on. I tried cleaning the connection but the same thing kept happening so just purchased a 50 dollar blower and it has worked perfect since.

@@shawnj2313 Well when you go to e-bay and look for the 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee they have 2 different ones listed. One has spikes on the side that goes into the heater and the other has a thermal fuse on the end of it. It is a 15 amp thermal fuse and the other i am sure has the electronics encased. Which is a 12 volt voltage controller. guess I have to open it up to see which it is. Maybe that is why most come with a wire harness with a plug on it, either one would proabley work, but I rather get one that is the same as the one that is in their.

@shawnj2313
