It's amazing how she speaks russian so fluently and yet speaks english without a hint of russian accent

@amazingdany No, it's an ex-pat. She's still Russian citizen, she speaks Russian to all of her relatives and to her Russian friends, she's Russian Orthodox, she plays for the Russian National Team during the Olympics etc. She is NOT an immigrant, she's in the US as long as her career requires from her be there. I'm sure she'll move to the Russian showbiz when she's over with tennis.

"She invests in real estate to make money for herself" - making money enables her to invest in real estate but all the money she ears and spends works for the US economy so as an American you must be thankful to her. Tennis stars are perfectly made in Russia without the USA, so the USA didn't give her any "chance to be a tennis star", as well as one needs to be extremely talented to be a star like her - she's gifted and if you're not gifted no "chance" will make a tennis star out of you.

I can name you a dozen of sports stars who moved to Russia after their international sports career was over. So why should Sharapova not move to Russia, too? And why shouldn't her Slovenian boy-friend move there, too? Russian is a beautiful place to be and Moscow is just an awesome city to live compared to most of the sleepy little towns around Europe. Sharapova loves New-York so she'll definitely like Moscow. In fact, she often says she enjoys Moscow really much. So where's the problem?

@lorororora For russian standards I agree. It's how she behaves and how classy she is that elevates her. There are plenty of beauties out there that are flat out cocky and act as divas. Plus, she is not trashy as many out there are. But you're right.

@PeacockTurquoise She builds sentences as Russian, she sometimes uses words which sound a bit odd for those Russians who have never lived abroad but her Russian is definitely her mother tongue and it's not translated at all. I'm Russian America, I know what I'm saying.

3 but then I don't know every word in the English language I don't know, I guess I interpret it as a East=bad West=good, that it's better to be an American than a Russian, I'm a paranoid European I suppose. For me language or dialect is a huge part of a person's being, it's how you communicate with the world It's quite a debate for a clip of a tennis post match interview

Culturally she's Russian not less than American - and you personally cannot just her "Russianess" because you don't speak Russian and aren't Russian. I know there are dozens of thousands of Americans in Moscow and I know that around 80 thousand Russians moved to the USA between 2003 and 2008 - not a huge number at all. Both Russian and Slovenian are Slavonic languages - if I hear or read Slovenian I can easily say what the words mean. For a Slovenian to learn Russian is a matter of a month.

What did America give her? America gave her the chance to be a tennis star. She pays taxes because she has to. She invests in real estate and endorses products to make money for herself. America has given Sharapova almost everything. She had talent to succeed, but those talents are worthless in Russia and that is why she came here.

Sharapova won't move to Russia because culturally, despite the lip-service she pays to her Russianess, she's thoroughly American. How many Americans move to Russia? Especially ones that grew up in warm, sunny Florida? Southern Americans tend to have a very, very low tolerance for colder climes. As for her Slovenian boyfriend, he doesn't speak Russian. And then there's that whole thing about Souther Cal being warm and sunny. So what would be the upside for him?
