The water was definitly getting in because of the drain being plugged up. There was a bunch of dead twigs and leaves stuck in there and in the chamber. I was able to fix this problem on my '06 Mustang in just about 30 minutes! Thank you so much for making this video!!

Thank you so much Jimthecarguy. I have been dealing with this problem for 8 years. I have a 2010 Mustang and have taken it into Ford Dealers and had them run a bunch of tests and they said there was no leak. When I first got my Mustang it happened and they thought I had left my convertible top down and wouldn't pay for the damage. I even took it to a auto shop to have them fix the problem. Today after 8 years I found this video and just fixed it in 10 minutes. I wasn't able to take the whole piece off like you did because I am not mechanically inclined at all and couldn't figure out how to move the windshield wipers. I was able to get my hand on the rubber drain and remove it from the passenger side where the leaks always are. I wasn't able to do the drivers side at all because of the wipers but if it still leaks I can take it in and tell the mechanic how I did the passenger side. Now If I can only get Ford to pay for the bubbling paint on my hood and trunk I would be all set. But thank you very much!

Hello, if you are still having problems the filter is in the bottom of the frame if you look down you will see under the frame the filter. You can pull that out. Make sure to buy new ones and put them in at risk of rusting and water damage

"Ok, but will it work on my 2005 Mustang?" LOL Just kidding! Thank you SO MUCH for this video, Jim! My car started leaking from underneath the dashboard after heavy rain, and the guy at the shop told me "I don't know, I have to take it apart and pour water on it to see where it's leaking." Really? You're a body shop and you don't know? I had a gut feeling he was trying to take advantage of me, and it turns out my gut was correct!

06 gt. Perfection man. I was sitting in my car and kept hearing dripping. Looked in the passenger floor and it was standing water. Googled problem. Your video was first. Watched it and went to the car wash right up the street to get out of the downpour and followed your advice. Literally under 10 minutes. And it was fixed. Thank you so much!!! I’m gonna get new cabin filter tomorrow. Since it’s so easy to replace 1000 stars brother

Holy Crap! I have been trying to figure out why I am getting all this water on the passenger side front and rear floor for a year. I had a new convertible top put on because I thought it was that. That did not solve it. I used silicone all around the front windshield. I even thought it could be coming in from the bottom of my passenger door or passenger window. I drilled holes in my passenger side floor, front and rear just to give the water a place to go since I could not figure out how to solve it. I was at the end of my rope so I came to KZitem figuring it was a long shot. I can't believe it is as simple as this. Jim, I cannot thank you enough. I want to sell the car. It's beautiful, but no one wants a car to swim in. Thank you so much Jim. Great video!

If the cowl is quite full of water, you can hear it slosh back and forth on the passenger side when steering back and forth quickly. Pull the passenger side drain tube out the bottom and tons of water (and possibly all your debris) will drain out. The passenger side appears to be worse generally than the drivers side, but pull both and clean inside the rubber drain. If you feel around inside the hole (in the cowl) after the drain tube is removed and it feels clean you may not need to remove the top grate. If you remove the top cowl grate, make sure you get a cabin air filter first as that's a perfect time to do both. I'd recommend purchasing new Cowl Drain Tubes if the old ones are in rough shape. They direct the water and probably prevent some fumes from entering the cabin, especially on the passenger side which contains the fan.

The flaps probably route the water, like a drip spout. If the water runs down the frame, might rust your brake lines or frame. Probably not good to remove the rubber flappy part. Spray it with armor all or silicon, then reinstall.

Everyone who is going to do this repair (as I did last year) should first go to the auto parts store and get the "Cabin Air Filter" to replace the soggy wet moldy one in the black box where the water went through into your car or it will still stink and you're blowing mold at your face when the air conditioning is on - don't skip this step if you've gone to the trouble of taking the grill piece off

Great video. Solved my problem. I had half about an inch of water on the passenger side of my car and I could hear the air system hitting water when it turned on, I thought is was the recent wind shield replacement causing the problem. FYI, I had the same water leak problem every time I went through a car wash with my Mustang. Water would pour in through the front passenger-side air vent and flood the carpet. I discovered the water leak was caused by the clogged rubber drain valve at the bottom of the compartment where the air filter is located. If you clean out the debris that collects in the bottom of the compartment below the air filter and unplug the rubber drain valve, some people just remove the rubber valve and leave it out, your internal water leak problem should be fixed. It took me two years to figure this out. Hope it helps you enjoy your Mustang!

Do I have to replace the flapper valve? Also thank you so much for the video! I have been dealing with this problem for a while now and it has been awful. Really appreciate it!

No you can leave the flapper valve out. That way the water and anything else will drain out. Thanks for watching. I'm happy to help.

Thank you so much for this video.....it was really easy and I figured might as well change the cabin filter while I was there. I've been dealing with this issue for awhile and it feel great that it's finally fixed and I did it myself.

I'm so glad I found this video...I have a 05 mustang and took it through the car wash a while back and it flooded my passenger side and shorted out my lights until the inside of the car dried out...I hope this fixes my issue..great video

Just so you know, that is not the only way water is getting into the inside. When you pull out the plastic cover you'll notice about 6 rectangular plastic inserts that the cover snaps into. These have gaskets around them that deteriorate and fall apart. Remove all these and remove the gasket and use a good black silicone or gasket maker to seal them. With the drain open like you did and the inserts sealed correctly no more leaks.
