Hey, im having this weird problem. Metal scratching / whistling sound with every tire turn for the first 10 seconds after the car has been sitting for a couple of days or tires get wet. The second thing is i suspect my wheel bearing is going bad, but when I lift the car from one side only there’s no wiggle when I shake the tire up down left and right Thanks

I've watched this repair (passenger side) from 6 different youtubers and I'd like to issue a correction: In all of them the carrier bearing on the right cv shaft just sweetly drops out of the bracket and your off. But that's not always the case. Nissan (in their ultimate wisdom) puts a steel bearing jacket into a cast aluminum bearing bracket. Mismatched metals. Add salt and you have a galvanic response that basically welds the carrier bearing into the brackets socket. 500 hits from the slide hammer and it aint moving. The options are 1) remove the bracket completely (very hard to reach on the ground) or possibly get an air hammer on the carrier bearing from the back side, without tearing up the brackets race. I had considered this issue prior to the repair and got the slide-hammer and fork tool from Oreilly's just in case. Unfortunately, the 5-pound slide hammer is too short and you can't get any real torque on it. It needs to be about 1.5 - 2 feet longer and heavier so you can really get a good slam. I am going to need to raise the car to it's highest possible point off the ground with jackstands. Then crawl under the front and get a look at the carrier bearing bracket screws for removal, or the possibility of stabbing it from behind with the air hammer. I had a quote for this job for $399 with a Napa rebuilt shaft and not including an alignment afterwards, so basically $500 total. If you have a nice car and good tires, there's no way you can jack all this suspension shit around like this and end up NOT needing an alignment. I bought a new Duralast shaft for $105 and decided to do it myself with some fresh KZitem confidence. Not going so well. Any free help will be greatly appreciated.

My advice would be to go ahead and remove the bracket that's galvanized to the carrier bearing on the shaft and remove it all in one piece. Once it's off the vehicle you can continue trying to separate them. It sounds like you gave a ton of effort to free it up from the bracket already. I know the 4 bolts that hold the aluminum bracket are going to be a pain to get to but it may be the only way out of this. When I was replacing mine, that possibility weighed on my mind too, guess I was just lucky that it didn't put up much of a fight and fell right out for me. I hope this advice helps you out and wish you much luck, let me know if you have any other questions.

@@TrickShiftGarage Thanks Trick Shift. Got her up in the air and looks like there's reasonable access to the 4 bolts on the bracket to the block. Guess the factory doesn't believe in ant-seize in that bearing hole. Any idea what the torque lbs are on those bracket screws? I picked up the Valvoline 75-90 oil over the 80-140. Is that the right call?

Assuming you have the manual transmission, I'd go with the 75w-90 personally. The bracket bolts are 22 ft-lbs on both the manual and CVT transmission setups. Glad you're making progress! 👍
