You may need to replace your coolant tempature sensor when your temp gauge begins irregularly fluctuating from normal to cold. Also another side effect of a faulty or degraded sensor may include decrease in mpg and engine performance. Listed below are the steps you will need to take to remove and replace temp sensor.
1. PREPARE :
buy sensor, 19mm wrench, coolant, allow engine to cool off.
2. ACCESS :
open hood, observe sensor location (driver side foward of exhaust manifold)
3. DISCONNECT :
disconnect 🔌 plug to sensor by lifting plastic tab underneath the sensor connector and removing plug.
4. REMOVAL :
Use your 19 MM wrench to loosen sensor and carefully remove sensor. While loosening beware of hot coolant and allow pressure to be relieved before completly removing. Allow fluid to drain.
5. INSTALL :
Install new sensor by hand and use 19mm to tighten. Do not over tighten. 20-30 inch lbs is my recommendation. If you do not have access to a torque wrench tighten to snug and then 1/4 turn.
6. RECONNECT :
Reconnect plug to sensor.
7. REFILL COOLANT :
If below recommended level top of fluids.
8. RESET ENGINE LIGHT IF SHOWING :
Disconnect a terminal from the battery for 90 seconds. (10mm socket) and reconnect.
9. CLEAN UP AND INPECT :
Remove any tools used. Start and run Engine for 5 min and observe area for any leaks.
10. TEST DRIVE :
Test drive vehicle.
