Man I'm so glad I ran across this video! I have a 2008 Silverado, just recently decided to swap out the factory radio, due to the auxiliary port crapping out on me, got tired of not having any music, and our radio stations here suck. So I went with an Alpine ILX-W650 and paired it with an Alpine KTA-450 so I could upgrade my factory speakers and not worry about them being too underpowered. And ironically after looking around on Crutchfield, I opted to go with Alpine S2 S-65 coaxials. Only problem was, according to Crutchfield, these 6.5's wouldht fit in the rear doors, claimed they would be too deep to be able to fit the door panels over. I decided to just order one pair and try them in the rear doors anyways. If they fit I'd just order a second pair for the front and if they didnt fit I'd just install them in the front and order something that would fit in the rear doors. I test fit them in the rear doors today and they fit just fine. Was planning on ordering a 2nd set of coaxials tomorrow, but after seeing how easy it is to fit components in the front, I'm gonna run components instead. Was thinking the tweeter would never fit in the factory tweeter location and didnt wanna start putting holes in my pillar but you showed me exactly what I need to do to get it all up and running. So excited, wanted components all along, nothing against coaxials, but components just sound so much richer, to me anyways.

A nice install, I would have put some 3mm foam around the speaker & mount also between the mount & the door. This helps with keeping the sound pushed forwards & not leaking into the door. Sound deadening would have made the speakers sound a hell of a lot better, but not everyone can afford the additional cost on top of the speakers price.

I did a speaker upgrade to Harmon-Kardons components and I have a horrible "buzz" coming from one of them when there's a bass heavy song on. I suspect the wiring is bad - the old speaker did the same thing at that location.

Thinking of just changing the door speakers. Does it make a big difference in the sound?

Would you recommend putting these in the front door as well? I have a 2011 GMC Sierra 1500.

If just wanting a coaxial, sure. But you'd be leaving OEM tweeters still, and it's worth the extra effort in replacing the front stage with component speakers vs just coaxials.

When I do the search for my truck, 2008 Chevy Silverado 1500 extended cab they show me a different speaker adapter. It looks more like a square or rectangular. Is that correct or do I use the same one as you did here?

Right, this is the crew cab. Extended cab models need the Metra 82-3020 for the rear door speaker bracket adapter: amzn.to/3ZXS0mj

You completely skipped the part where you mount the speaker on the bracket speaker! 🤦🏻♂️
