You mention no cruise control but I can clearly see it on the left hand stalk of the steering wheel after you say it. It is the button on the end of the stalk with a small switch on it to turn it on or off. I just bought one that’s 4x4 with the 5 speed. Awesome truck!!

I own a 2004, I bought new for ~$10,000. 275,000+ miles later, it is still running strong. No major issues, other than typical maintenance stuff. Main flaw is it eats light bulbs. Also the check engine light came on after about 6 months, and never went off. After multiple sensors and what not, I said to hell with it. Truck runs fine.

The timing on these trucks is insanely tight as per the way GM programmed the PCM. After 150k or so, the timing chain can stretch and ever so slightly, or the tensioner guide can loosen and ta-da, you get a near perm timing code from that point on, even if the truck basically still runs fine. This happened my 2006 and was too expensive and too much trouble than it was worth to fix, I just used my OBD2 code reader and deleted the code every time it popped up right up until I traded it in.

Also stupefying that many vehicles it costs perhaps thousands more than the automatic. The cheapest model of something like the Versa being manual I'd shrug and figure makes sense to get somebody to pay up if they don't want to drive manual. Whereas the opposite...

2.9 litres is pretty big displacement for a 4 cylinder engine. Toyota had a 3.0 4 cylinder in the 2000's that they used in their Prado SUVs and Hilux trucks overseas (it was a diesel engine).

Perfect size truck to zip in and out of Home Depot parking spaces without worrying about side swiping other cars plus awesome and small to get thru alley ways. After all, the construction business takes you to everywhere & anywhere. Scooting a mid size Colorado between two buildings is perfect so you don't wind up carrying 100 lbs -five gallon pails of spackle. Lol, sometimes the bigness of an F150 just doesn't get the job done but a frisky 4cyl mid size will .

The fact that these four bangers weren't used in a wide array of vehicles doesn't affect parts availability all that much. They share a majority of their components with the 5 and 6 cylinder variants of the Atlas engine.

From what I'm told MT GM made pickups haven't been available to individuals for many years . You had to order one and register for business. Few people I knew back then tried to get them without any luck and had to rely on crazy aftermarket prices.

I have been thru 2 versions of this exact truck in black, a 2006 and now since 2020, a 2012 model. I love this truck for alot of the exact reasons you have stated, but honestly, she is the last of her kind. An endangered species of truck, the basic little to no frills, still somewhat compact truck with a stick and a 4 banger, even if it is the biggest gas 4 cylinder I've seen! The Colly is alot of fun to drive, even winding that DOHC 2.9L out to 6k rpms is a blast to me and is surprisingly quick in the upper RPM range. Best launch I've gotten was approximately 7.3 seconds, 0-60, more than enough to get out of the way of it's own butt. Currently at 90k on the odometer and I've had far less minor issues with the 2012 than I did with the 2006, but both have been great trucks. 😎👍

if you want to drive a car that isn't friendly to beginners that is manual try a toyota corolla IM. i'm going to guess that truck's clutch is heavy but confident about its engages like my s10. imagine that weight. but a paper thin bite point and if u miss it a little bit your shook all around with a super laggy dbw where you have to componsate that with the clutch and actually low key power shift 1-3 because the delay in the gas is so awful. that the car will shake you.
