Great, great great video. I super appreciate your patience and explaining step by step on how to do this job. I’m waiting to see how much my mechanic will charge me for this. I’m sure it’s more money than I’d like to spend when I can do it myself. Thank you guys so much and thank your beautiful camera lady aka your wife. Myself and my wife will hammer out this job this Saturday Super thanks again Be well Shalom

Great video. You answered one of my questions about needing to partially remove the exhaust to get to those couple of pesky bolts.

Thank you so much for making these videos. Though I haven't actually needed them yet (thankfully) I truly appreciate it.

Great movie. Trying to decide whether to trust this job to my garage or do it myself - hoping to find debris in the sump as we cannot find the source of a persistent Vanos fault, having replaced everything else (including timing chain). Your movie helped me to decide to do it myself.

It gets better. I looked in the sump - clean. I also took the rocker cover off as your movie suggests - clean but the 'nuts' on the end of the camshafts were just too tempting so I applied a wrench and gave them a little torque. The exhaust vanos showed a little movement (as I'd expect) but the inlet vanos (the issue) was locked solid. So despite all my garage's assurances it looks like they did a poor job when fitting the inlet vanos cog. The car goes back in next week, I hope to get cured- thanks to the encouragement of your movie. Could save me $1000!

Good video. Way to cover all the bases. Many techs. Don't put the extra effort in finding the collateral damage.

Always do the first turns of a bold or nut by hand... there's simply no feeling with electric or air tools...😉🤙

well I've just done my sump gasket "previous owner used a sealant only between the block & sump which hasn't held at all!" luckily my aftermarket exhaust is in sections so removing the front was very easy to do! removing the sump is childs play, I only found 1 bolt slightly awkward to remove & tjat is the one directly under the downpipe. regarding re-fitment I've opted for the appropriate gasket & added a small amount of sealant to help things along. anyway anyone thinking of doing this, Do its dead easily & pretty quick to do

I have a R56 that when it hurries sounds somewhat as beat release, similar when take it to a march and surprise it and also when take it in . shortly afterwards revolutionize, and the marches all change well and sound in any different, that it can be

questions...1. did you use any thread sealant like Loctite? if not why ? 2. how has the oil pan gasket held up I read some people have issues with theirs. .but never gave a follow up..asking because i want to tackle this job soon but rather be safe than sorry .BTW thanks for the videos they are very helpful and informative.

why would you use thread sealant???? regarding the gasket, I've literally today just fitted a new one to my mini as the previous owner decided to use a sealant only to seal between the pan & engine "no it wasn't a good seal!" ultimately id a gasket is being fitted then you should replace it rather then going without!

Can you use a shop vac to clear the oil pump?

I guess you could. You'd have a mess in your shop vac, but sure.

I also used a felpro gasket when I pulled the oil pans off for my timing chain job. It seems to leak a bit. Is this something you came across when you used the paper gasket as opposed to rtv?

I don't think running those bolts in (and especially starting them) the aluminum block with a drill is a very good idea at all, but thanks for the rest of the vid...

About 100k if memory serves. I had to drop the pan to clean it out after my timing chain failed.
