Saabs were known for having to be in reverse to remove the key. Had no idea the transmission was shared with the G6 and that the reverse lockout feature carried over. Fantastic.

First off I'd like to say, congrats Zack for this being your 1000th video. I love your videos man. You see the beauty in every car whether it's something cool or something lame. You make everyone feel accepted with whatever car they own. I do hope you channel goes to great hights. Your super underrated and if I knew you in person I'd love to be friends with you. There's too much negativity around certain cars hut you eliminate that and I absolutely love it. Also the ending of the video was sooo good and just hit so close to home. Thanks man and I wish the best to you, your future and your girlfriends future. Now about the car: I honestly was never a big fan of these but with that being said I never knew a coupe version of these existed let alone in manual. I'm always seeing the sedan version of these. It seems like these cars attract scummy people cause most of the people that owned these that I dealt with at the parts store were really annoying. I had a super annoying neighbor that had one of these too. So yeah most people I've seen with these were lame. Also the steering wheel makes me think of the Pontiac Solstice.

I absolutely love your reviews of older cars. There are a ton of memories for us older folks (I’m 59) with vehicles from the 80s. My daughter bought a 06 G6 for 4 grand 5 years ago. It just keeps on running and running with zero mechanical issues.

Congratulations Zack on 1000 episodes. I almost bought a G6 back in late 2008 but the styling just seemed so as you called it Mac n Cheese so I went to Carmax and chose a 2005 Grand Am instead. I loved the red gauges Pontiac had in their vehicles from the 80s all the way up until the end they look so good especially when driving at night my current vehicle a 2003 GMC Sierra has red leds in the dash put in by the previous owner when I bought it back in June 2020. I wish Pontiac was still around today but where would they fit in GM'S current lineup.

For those Curious!! The reverse lockout has nothing to do with Saab. The reason for the lockout is because the car was designed without a steering lock and the manual was probably an after thought so GM added it after the fact. Another potential reason why gm didn't put a steering lock is because it requires a redundent bus to verify its operation because a steering lock engaging while driving would be detramental. I know on Saabs personally there are ton of fail safes in place with the modules in the car to protect the steering lock such as multiple engaging prerequiesites and its own bus line (K line). By putting a locking soleniod on the shifter it doesn't need as much engineering or safety considerations. The hilarious thing is that all Saab models that use the F40 6 Speed gearbox (ng9-3 and ng9-5) actually do not have shifter locks at all and instead have electronic steering locks and saabs with a shifter lock approach it completely different as they lock with the key cylinder nearby and a mechanical linkage. No solenoids.

Thanks for the information. I didn't know that. This f40 requires a rare synthetic fluid that is not aggressive to the synchronizers. I swapped the intake manifold with a lz4 one. Just left the intake solenoid connected to keep the pcm happy. Car likes it.

This video brought a tear to my eye. Our stories with the G6 are one in the same. My first car (which I still have) is a 2007 silver Pontiac G6 which was a hand-me-down from my deceased grandfather and I couldn't agree more about what it is. The car alone isn't special but it means everything to its owner and the biggest smile on my face came when I saw the old clip of your G6 with blacked out hub caps because that's exactly what I did to mine. This is the first video of yours that I've seen and I'm glad I did. Cheers!

I love the term "macaroni styling" for nostalgia! For me that applies to the Chrysler K-Cars. My mom drove a Chrysler LeBaron sedan in the 80's, and my first car was a Dodge Aries. The original Ford Taurus and the Chevy Citation were other old "favorites" of mine.

Congrats on 1000! Your channel is seriously underrated and deserves many more subs. Illuminated check engine light: standard equipment on used Pontiacs. Saabs lock the shifter in reverse when the key is removed but Saabs have the key next to the shifter. I guess Pontiac figured out some solenoid lock on reverse so the car can't roll away. As crappy as GM stuff usually is this looks like a decent commuter car with a dash of sport. My second car is how you talk about your old G6. My first car could barely leave my town so I supplanted it with a real car. It took me all over my home state and into some of the surrounding states. It usually started (but not always). It was comfortable and could hold tons of stuff. It was well equipped for a 2001 car but basic by today's standards. It took me to college, my first job that I got stuck at for way too long, the train station for my coding boot camp, and eventually my dream job. I traded it for a new and reliable and better equipped Subaru Outback last year because I could finally afford something nice and couldn't live with an increasingly unreliable and dated car. It was time to move up to something better but I still miss it sometimes. I'm glad I still have my first car, that one's not going anywhere.

I learned to drive, at least part of the time I was learning, on a G6. It was a 2006 sedan with the 2.4-liter I-4. I actually liked it a lot better than my father's previous car, a 2002 Grand Prix SE. The only thing the Grand Prix really had on the G6 was the engine, but the G6 seemed to have a better transmission and more direct steering. Seeing those gauges brought back some memories for me, too.

Congratulations! Continued success! I had a 2007 Pontiac G6 GT in cobalt blue. I had the automatic. It was such an awesome car. It had a camel interior (the seats were a cool fabric and made me not want leather), auto climate control, upgraded sound system, and chrome wheels. It was optioned out, I guess. I loved that car so much! Second car I ever bought. That coupe and I were one. Ha ha! You may not find the silver/gray as appealing. It seems more dated. Look at some pics of the "electric blue" (I think that's the correct color) and let me know what you think, please! After this car I went to a Mazda 6 GTi. Both cars have been very good to me!

I like the video - I have always had a G6 (or two)in my driveway since 2012. I started with the sedan 2.4, then my wife bought the hard top convertible, and my daughter bought herself a coupe (looks like this one, but auto) for her first car. I like these cars a lot - and I think the outside styling has held up decently compared to newer cars. The interior is dated because of all the tech in today’s cars but I still enjoy driving our two.

Big ups on your 1000. I respectfully disagree with your take on the exterior profile of the coupe. Honestly think it's one of GM's most dynamic and sporty flowing rear ends and I'm so glad they deviated as much as they did from the sedan because they usually don't. The hardtop convertible is another great release of theirs but the coupe was always a favourite of mine style-wise. Similar to the CTS coupe, only not angular.
