I have discovered a solution to the hard steering and the difficulty in making small corrections to stay straight on the highway, I hope it helps, I disassembled the steering column gears, and the metal helical worm was dry, the grease had slipped out to the sides. I cleaned and replaced with high viscosity grease on the helical and the nylon gear, it improved a lot, now the steering is smoother and it is easier to make small corrections to maintain a straight line on the road. This maintenance worked on my 2010 RAV4, and will work on the Camry 2.4 which has the same electric steering I think. I really appreciate your video, it helped me discover that the problem is not electronic but mechanical, it encouraged me to disassemble the steering column, thank you from Brazil.

This is awesome!! I have been looking for a definitive fix for this exact issue! Looks pretty involved but I might have to give it a go, as you said, it sucks to drive right now.

Great Video. My 2010 has the same condition. I have purchased the whole column to replace it. I have replaced the struts and shocks, tie rods, sway bar links and bushings, steering intermediate shaft and still persist. Thank you for the video. My daughter starts to drive in a few weeks and it drives her and the wife nuts... always correcting center....

I had a similar problem (2015 Rav4), the clicking was audible and could be felt in the steering wheel. With the intermediate shaft disconnected, the clicking was still there, so I knew the problem was in the steering column. With the steering column removed and disassembled, a bearing on the output shaft was the cause. My vehicle did not have the star shaped bushing that causes a similar problem. Of note, when the outdoor temperature was cool the click was less noticeable and when it was hot it was very annoying. This diagnosis and repair took about 4 hours to do, but cost less than $50 for the bearing and a tube of Super Lube grease to complete the job.

Hey, thanks for the video. Can I replace just the booster motor without removing the entire column. It looks like the motor faces the firewall. Can the column be unbolted at the knuckle and turned to just replace the booster motor held on by what appears to be 2 bolts?

How long did it take you to replace the part. Video was38 min but actual time as how long

It was definitely not 38 min to complete, I would say about 2-3 hours. but that was with me filming and learning as I went. If I were to do it again, I think it would be only an hour or so.

Just bought an 08 limited and i couldnt figure out why the vehicle kept tracking. You have to adjust constantly to keep from going off road and it "catches' or "sticks". This must be the issue. Did you also find its probably more stiff than it should be as well?
@chrisarnone7896
7 ай бұрын
It was just a weird driving experience, hard to say if “stiff”. But it would be you would turn the wheel slightly and nothing happened. Then turn a bit more and it would jump to that position. Stuff may be a good word.

@@AbuBio I didn’t have that issue. Are you sure your click spring/angle sensor is in the correct position? You should be able to either 1) look at the scan tool and see the position. Or 2) count the rotations to where is stops turning and find to middle to where both directions have Raquel amount of turns. Does the scan tool tell you what the issue is? And if so is the clock spring /angle sensor, the issue. Or is it something else? Hope this helps.

Any time you remove the airbags disconnect the negative post on the battery.

Yep thats what "they suggest". I've taken out quite a few air bags (none when the car is turned on) and had no issues with them deploying. But the consensus says to disconnect the battery/ neg term. But you guys do what make you feel safe.

I'm assuming you meant the Radio/ screen? It is a "Joying" unit. I ordered from their web site. I have another video that unboxes it and installs it. ( for a 2015 CRV) so check that out. There are some pros a cons of the unit. check out the description in the other video to see.
