We go back to 2007 for this do-or-die contest for the Washington Redskins, who were facing an uphill battle to the post-season after a mid-season 4-game slump derailed a once promising year. Having regained their winning ways with a Thursday Night win vs the Bears 10-days prior, the Redskins went into the Meadowlands (of all places) desperate for a win to even their record at 7-7 and keep unlikely playoff hopes alive.
On a blustery cold night in New Jersey (weren't they all...?), with a journeyman back-up QB at the helm for his first start in 10 years, the Redskins steered into the wind and past the Giants to claim this upset victory.
It wasn't pretty on either side (unless you love defense). The Giants dropped a million Eli Manning passes, while Todd Collins did just enough (only 8 completions) to support a smothering defense and a hard-nosed rushing attack by the Redskins. Washington avenged a tough loss to New York from week 3, kept their hopes alive and set the stage for a memorable showdown in Minneapolis against the Vikings the following week for control of the final NFC Wild Card playoff spot.
The venerable Al Michaels and John Madden on the call for the first of two back-to-back Sunday Night win-or-go-home road victories for Joe Gibbs and the '07 Redskins.
PS This particular game (and others from this period of shift from analog to digital TV signal) has some baked in digital compression artifact (part of the TV signal) that was hard to remove without rendering the video too blurry. Really wanted it to look a little sharper but, alas...
