As others have said, no need to remove wheels or drums. You can get at the star wheel adjuster from the back after removing a small rubber plug.

it's easier to not remove the wheels or drums, but you get a better adjustment the way he shows here. The way the shoes move out when you adjust, you want to make sure the shoes are settled evenly before calling it good. You can go in a press the brakes, and adjust some more, but if's almost easier to take the wheels off than crawling underneath and going back and forth.

Awesome vid just what I needed and worked perfect. The pawl that rests on the star wheel was stuck so after I freed it it works and parking brake holds on hills now. Appreciate it my man!

There's a plug on the back of the drum you can access the star adjustment without removing your rims.

Dan S. 1 second ago it's easier access the adjuster from the back, but you get a better adjustment the way he shows here. The way the shoes move out when you adjust, you want to make sure the shoes are settled evenly before calling it good. You can go in a press the brakes, and hope they sit even up and down, left to right, then adjust some more, but if's almost easier to take the wheels off and pull the drums out partially than crawling underneath and going back and forth.

I keep the rims on, keep it on the ground, jack up the back, block the front wheels, set in neutral, & adjusting through the plug, get each side adjusted so that the wheel spins 5x before stopping. Takes 5 minutes. Perfection.

Bolt size to press of brake drum is... M8 x1.25 length doesn't matter too much I use 1 1/2"L. You're Welcome

This drum system hardly works for e brakes. Some helpful tips include. Machining the drums if the surfaces are uneven. Also make sure the cable is not adjusted fully at the handle end. Then finally always use the handbrake excessively. That's the only way it can ratchet and tension itself

Thank you that was well explained BUT WHAT IF THOSE REAR BRAKES ARE THE DISC TYPE AS ON THE CAR I HAVE ?

I have 2005 Corolla CE. My husband pulled the parking brake and felt something snap and now there's zero tension. Do you think the front cable broke? Or could it still be something with either the left or right rear cables?

Cable definitely just snapped, if left unused, they can get brittle and snap, especially on older cars

When would you do this versus adjusting the cable at the handbrake?

Do you adjust them on both rear brakes or just the passenger side?

Mine e break does not have much stopping power. Is the direction you were spinning it good for a 2007 corolla.

That rod is automatically adjusted every time you mash the brake pedal and is not to be used for adjusting the park brake
