This generation Shelby GT500 is simplistic and intended to be a daily driver you can take to the drag strip. Also, they have characteristics reminiscent of classic muscle cars, a solid heavy duty iron block, a roots style supercharger (though more advanced), a solid live rear axle, and a manual transmission. Solid live rear axles, in conjunction with drag slicks, provides traction at a drag strip. The 08' Super Snake ran a 10.86 at 135mph at the strip and 11.8s on the street on street tires. An anti-hop kit is available for these beasts, which gives them even more traction! The 2.9l gen 3 whipple boosts the stock motor on a stock shelby gt500 to an impressive 725hp at a safe, with a proper tune, 17psi. This gen shelby gt500 is my favorite. Even at a track, they are not bad handlers.

This is a great review! I know I'm behind the curve, but I grew up on JDM cars (RX7, Supra, etc) and then moved to Beamers. However, when I was ready to get rid of my M3, I went to test drive an M4 Convertible... Even though it was ok... It felt less impressive than my E93 in regards to just that torque/power "wow factor"... Then I looked across the lot and saw a random 2010 Mustang GT Vert sitting on the lot... The salesman told me it was a recent trade-in and that I shouldn't look at it... Turns out it had headers, cams, exhaust, CAI, and I'd assume a tune... Felt super good, so I bought it over the M4. This car with traction control off, feels as raw as my old RX7s and Supras, but with the power and roar of the V8... Your video reinforced why I enjoyed driving the GT over the M4, its because you actually have to drive it, while the M4 felt neutered to a degree. Also, since I got it for 1/3 of the price I was expecting to spend on the M4, now I'm thinking about boosting the Vert and also buying a GT500 Coupe. :)

I agree it sounds evil and pissed off. Shelby didn't have much of anything to do with these gt500s...ford owned the name and put it on there... svt created and that is whst makes me want one, although im a big carroll shelby fan too i love svt and everything they stood for...theyre now ford performance and have lost their edge but for 20+ years svt was the bees kneea lol. Subtle enough changes inside and out to make their vehicles feel more "special" while having significantly better performance in every area compared to the normal version of whatever particular car (or truck) youre talking about. Non car people normally cant tell the difference and that is what i love about em. Other svt owners look at you when youre an SVT owner as if they know that you know that these are special vehicles and not alot of other people know about em lol. Nice review, but the crashing doesn't happen because of the live rear axle. An independent rear wouldn't stop that. Many 2015+ Mustangs crash the same way and they have independent rear ends. What is causing the crashes is the fact that the s197 Mustangs give you everything from a stand still should you floor the car. Most of those people are coming from FWD platforms which are heavily torque vectored and traction controlled. The S197 Mustang is a RAW CAR. You have to drive it like a race car and not like a Civic si which is far more forgiving. You shouldn't be flooring that Mustang at all unless you are well over 130mph. I own 2 of them (a 2012 and a 2013) and if I floored either of them from a stop or a slow speed, I could expect really bad things to happen to myself or others.

Its called a sticky tire man. My 07 has light bolt ons and 4.10 gears out back and I stomp it even in 1st gear with traction control off. Granted I am on one of the best drag radials you can get the et street r tires from MT and they're 275/60/15 did the 15 inch conversion out back but you could run an 18-19 inch drag radial even the less aggressive ones and punch it in 2nd no problem. I know some people want a long lasting tire because it is there "daily" or whatever but imo if you have a 500-800 whp mustang with massive torque on tap at 2000 rpm like these gt500s you really should have some kind of drag radial on it if you actually wanna be able to enjoy the car at all. I had 275 street nittos on 20s when I first got the car and I could not punch it under 3rd gear 1st and 2nd were both completely useless and it sucked I couldn't really enjoy the car without majorly busting the speed limit kicking it from like 60+ mph. Now I can kick down on it in first or second with no traction control and it is fine because the tires I'm running are amazing. If you're running alot of power in these cars you need to have a drag radial it's that simple.

I'm sorry but it is not a muscle car. A muscle car is taking a big engine and putting it in a big car. Muscle cars are big with powerful engines, affordability, good looks, a comfortable cruiser, practicality with plenty of cargo room for the trunk and passenger room in the back seat but not the best in handling. Muscle cars can come with both four door and two door styles and even hatchbacks. The 69 Dodge Charger and the Ford Galaxy are old muscle cars and the modern Dodge Challenger are very good examples of muscle cars. The Mustang is a pony car. A pony car is taking a big engine and putting it in a medium size to smaller car. It has power, affordability, good looks, better handling than a muscle car, more nimble, but is very lacking on passenger room in the backseat, less cargo space, and a little less comfortable for cruising. They only come in two door and are not hatchbacks like the Dodge Magnum. Mustang and Camaro are two examples of pony cars.

The amount of mistakes in this video is overwhelming. A solid rear axle is superior for straight line acceleration, not inferior. The reason there are so many videos of Mustangs crashing out of car meets, including the 2015 IRS rear suspension Mustang, is because the Mustang offers a lot of power cheaply so inexperienced young drivers can afford the car but cannot handle it and crash it.

Even a used one with over 100k will cost well over 24k. These cars keep their value

That engine really has nothing in common with the Ford GT. Cousins 3rd removed, at best.

They have the exact same heads. Gt is aluminum like 11 up gt500 but earlier gt500 were iron block. They had a different blower and different oiling system but they're pretty similar overall.

Loved the review until you said the reason these cars crash is because the live axle... WRONG! They crash because the rear end is light and when the power shifts to the back it can’t put it down because the bushings are very soft and they deflect a lot, on top of that you add an inexperienced non driving idiot behind the wheel and wham! I have one of these GT500s and after doing lower control arms, the car changed dramatically and was able to put the power down more predictable than stock
