Rugged, simple, easy to repair, cheap to repair, cheap to insure, cheap to drive, cheap to own... It has heaters, mirrors, power steering and it's rear wheel drive... I'm sorry but that's a winning combination.

"Rugged" Unrefined. "easy to repair" Quick to break. "cheap to insure" In Russia maybe, everywhere else better makes are just as cheap. Everything this 2008 2107 does, an E70 Toyota corolla does better.
@archechme
10 жыл бұрын
Why does it need to be refined? If it works (which it does) then that's fine. I'm happy with that. Furthermore, it isn't quick to break, it's a strong car with a decent engine. People are driving around in harsh conditions in Russia in 80s and 90s models and they survive, until they crash. In which they still survive because they're built like nuclear bunkers.
@phillycheesetake
10 жыл бұрын
Bjork Vlogdok Ladas are no more reliable than European and Japanese equivalents from the 80s/90s. The reason why more Ladas remain on the roads is because Russians generally can't afford to replace their car every 5 years, so it became necessary to take very good care of what they have. I can guarantee you that old Mercs, Toyotas, Volvos, Nissans, etc. will accumulate more miles before dying than Ladas will. They'll also use less fuel, have higher power ratings, have better suspension, better engineered chassis, better brakes, better materials, better build quality. A Lada is a tool to do a specific job, cars from the West and Japan have always been consumer items, it's only natural that one would progress faster than the other.
@archechme
10 жыл бұрын
I'm speaking from a Russian perspective, this car is perfect for Russians. Hence it's so popular. However, over here in the UK I'd obviously choose from a Honda Civic or an Audi A4 rather than a Lada.

Yes indeed. Look at the Honda C90, although it was slightly updated in 1985the basic design package remained unchained for half a century and it was so good it evolved into something slightly bigger and is still in production. Same with the CG125, although the styling was updated several times, the engine and chassis remained unchanged for more than 30 years. Some other cars have remained in production for many decades unchanged such as the Peugeot 504.
