I’m a car guy and I love the Prius. Times have changed and we’re in a new era. The Prius of yesterday is the Tesla of today. I think the best thing about these cars is that they will last you over 300k and still be reliable and cheap to own.

I'm a car guy and have always liked the Gen2 Prius. We're on our 3rd one now. Just installed a new Toyota hybrid battery. It was original with 180k miles on a 2006. Car is in fantastic shape.

When they first came out and for a long time I looked down on them, but nowadays I think they're quite charming. My second favorite Prius behind the brand new one, but definitely the most recognizable. What a weird shifter! Also the almost Tesla-like gauge cluster area (as in, there isn't one).

NOTE: The B mode forces increased engine braking using the gasoline engine. It does not increase electrical energy recuperation by the electric motors. Using the B mode under normal driving conditions is unnecessary and provides no efficiency gain compared to just driving normally in D. The B mode is meant for situations such as descending down from a mountain, where increased engine braking is required to avoid overheating the brakes, and recuperative braking could overcharge and damage the battery.

One thing i never understand on the prius is why the steering wheel is slightly shaped like an oval

Toyota's had a really awkward placement of the steering wheel for way too long in their cars, otherwise I wouldn't mind a Prius too much. I'm assuming they weren't really intending on selling these cars to taller people.

3:38 just floor it! The engine is not worked hard AT ALL. The maximum engine speed is only 5000, and the 1NZ engine family that this belongs to can safely be revved MUCH higher than that. I have a 2002 and I punch it when I'm first in line at a stoplight to experience the torque of the electric motor off the line.

Apart from the steering wheel, this car is essentially drive-by-wire. The computer won't let the driver exceed the powertrain's performance envelope. This is one of the reasons why the Prius is so economical and reliable.
