It takes 20 minutes or less to remove the bumper, headlights and radiator core support. Gives you WAY more room to work but also more room to remove the engine.

I feel the pain that you went through with that engine. I took the easy route by getting a donor engine out of 08 Kia Optima from the salvage yard for $150. Had to do it twice since the first donor engine was a oil burner. Here's the video where I did the engine swap: kzitem.info/news/bejne/tW6HwH-Bjp-HY34

Thanks for the video! I have a 2008 sonata with two loose rod bearings and looking to replace them and limp along for a little longer. You say that the crankshaft can only be removed with the motor out of the engine, but I've stared at every diagram I can find and it appears the lower ladder frame could be dropped from below giving access to the fourth cylinder rod bearing. Do you think it's possible?

I just wanted to add an updated comment in case anyone else is curious. I was able to drop the ladder frame with the engine still in the car. The only thing in the way was the front right engine motor mount. After removing the engine mount bolts the ladder frame could be removed giving access to the 4th cylinder rod bearing.

Well the crankshaft is connected to the drive plate which is connected to the torque converter so I'd say if you want to lower the crankshaft you to at least have to remove that. I'm not an expert on sonatas I just have a marginal mechanic

Anyone know what bolts worked for mounting to the engine stand? Size, strength rating, length?

Weird that the cam journals are good but the lower end is destroyed. Almost like an oil passage became blocked.

Wait..... what if my engine is completely seized and crankshaft won't rotate. How do I unbolt the engine from the transmission?

I have a 2009 Hyundai Elantra touring wagon project. I was looking at swapping its stock engine 2.0 liter to a 2.4 liter Sonata engine just like the one you are working on, to get more power. Do you think it will be a plug and play kind of a swap? What else will need to get swapped for the engine to run smoothly? Please and thank you.

Hi I’m going to replace my 2008 sonata 2.4L will a 2009 2.4L sonata engine fit?

Yeah that should work just fine. I believe it was 2011 when the next Generation Sonata came out. So you should be fine. The only thing to be careful about is the emissions designation. There's a federal and there's a California. To the best of my knowledge that only affects the number of O2 sensors on the catalytic converter. Typically catalytic converters or Not Included on used engines
