They did this number because Chris deserves a Tony many times over. He was fantastic in the role and to think he's 6'2 and did this all on his knees is nothing short of incredible. He deserved the recognition.

Broadway lover 123 That and the kneepads are actually very cool. They have almost have hyrdaulics in them as well. It'll wear him out fast but they take care of his knees quite well. :)

I like this and Chris is brilliant, but I love "Who'd I be". I think that it gives the show something much more real and deep to the story book characters and leaves the audience with something they can relate to. I did this show last September and it truly was such a fun and uplifting show. An absolute must see!

Because the effect was supposed to be that he was jumping forward onto the backs of his 'subjects' with 'Farquaad's' legs. Showing how low he views them. It's a subtle display of his character while also allowing the actor and the audience to have some fun. Just caught the wrong angle here due to the powerful lenses of the cameras and the way the lighting was on stage.
