if anyone is watching this with a 2014, you'd THINK the fill is in the same place, its not. you have to remove the drivers side tire, two 10mm hex, a plastic push pin and another push pin or two on the bottom to open things up enough to get at the fill.

Remove ur correct fill plug on side of tranny, you prob over filled by using the wrong plug on top of tranny. Remove it let excess fluid run out then put plug back in.

@@lukeoliver9920 Measure exactly 2.3 ltr in container then add to tranny, this way cannot overfill. Unlike auto and cvt transmissions the manual dumps all the oil when you remove the drain plug.

There will be an overflow hex key plug half way up the gearbox on the front side, the correct way to do this is to remove this plug when you fill with the new oil, this hole is set up in such a way that on a LEVEL surface, you stop filling once the oil starts to drain out of this hole (ie its full). This ensures any excess old oil that was left in the sump of the gearbox, from it being jacked up and not level is added to your total. This is the only correct way to do a gearbox oil change, same process for Diff in a rwd car.

Hey.... First off the tranny is not filled through the top, that’s where a speed sensor would of hooked up. The fill plug is on the drivers side of the tranny, same height as drivers side axel. I guarantee you over filled the tranny. You want to use the drain on the bottom as you did correctly then fill through the fill hole on the side...I repeat side of transmission. Keep adding fluid until it runs back out that fill hole. Then ur tranny is full to correct level. The air box is not to be moved or unbolted for procedure. That’s the wrong plug to fill transmission on top...
@minimumeffortenthusiast8242
3 жыл бұрын
Only thing he did wrong was not using the refill indicator plug, which as you said tells you it's at the right level when it starts spitting it back out. The speed sensor goes at the top of the differential section of the gearbox. He basically calculated how much it needs to have and blind filled it. Everything he did was right, just needed to add in removing the refill reference plug to determine it was full. Why would you use a plug on the side of the trans when you can use one at the top and pour your oil in comfortably?
@Ali-nl2du
2 жыл бұрын
@@minimumeffortenthusiast8242 You are right, on my Toyota Auris 1.6 2012 there are 2 possible fill plugs, 1 drain plug and 1 check/overflow plug. You can fill from the top like in this video, or using the side plug facing the driver's seat. Then you can use the check/overflow plug facing the driver's side front wheel to check the level, it should overflow by excessive oil. Checking the level is not necessary if you fill with the right amount, but it is always recommended.

How was the gear shifting feel after replacing the gear oil with what you showed us ? Reason I ask is that Toyota recommends using genuine Toyota LV GL4 oil and according to the service book failure to do so may result in harsh shifting and noises at idle.
@lukek1949
4 жыл бұрын
That's why I'll be doing another manual transmission fluid change soon. The dealer obviously put in the wrong fluid. For the first few minutes of driving, it shifts stiffly into 2nd gear. I hear the Redline LV is good. I'll be using that one.

@@austinbuhler8429 Austin, yes, I changed to Redline LV after about 40,000 km on that wrong oil. Night and day. Immediately got rid of the stiffness from cold, especially into 2nd gear. Fortunately, it’s a manual, so the fluid change alone solved the problem. With an automatic transmission, you could easily do more damage with the wrong fluid. I’ll likely go 100,000 km now before changing the transmission oil again. Hope this helps!

Depends on how hard you drive the car I believe, but from watching other videos about transmission fluid changes in various vehicles etc., the guys that were transmission mechanics said to maximize life change it every 30K miles, or 50K kilometers. That's probably a little excessive given that this is a small vehicle and not high performance, but hey why not, at least it's not too difficult and not nearly as messy as doing an automatic transmission fluid change.

Actually you can save a lot of money by filtering your drained gear oil with an inline magnetic filter(magnefine comes to mind) and pour it back. After all the lubricant don't breakdown, it just carries tiny metal fragments. So you can reuse it over and over.

@Dominic Fong you are completely wrong. Gearbox oil is mechanically sheared everytime you drive and is losing its viscosity and lubricity properties.
