I wanted to show the skid plate installation process in real time for those wondering how long it really takes to do the install. This Prius was the perfect candidate to show just how easy it is even with the worst case scenario. This Prius had previously hit a coyote on the freeway and caused the subframe to shift out of square. It’s not uncommon for the subframe to do this even without being in an accident due to being bolted together. Fortunately in order to get it back to square all you need to do is loosen the 8 bolts and adjust it. In addition to the frame being out of square the plastic splash guard was held on with a half dozen sheet metal screws directly into the subframe in addition to the original mounting points. I also had a couple fumbles that cost me some time. Even with all of these things it still took less than 15 minutes from start to finish. We list install time at 30 minutes to give a little cushion but everyone's skill level and setup is different. The same goes for the removal process, if you ever needed to remove it for service or major maintenance, we list removal time at 60 seconds but we’re able to do it in 30 seconds. I also added a few photos showing the increase in ground clearance this provides which varies between .75”-1.25” depending on where you measure from on the vehicle. Oh yeah, and last but not least, our highly requested update…a removable oil access door for oil changes. We were able to come up with a skeleton backing plate that allowed for a removable panel while also maintaining a majority of the structural rigidity. Unlike other companies out there, here at Prius Offroad we strive to under-promise and over-deliver.
