I 100% agree with the movie’s ending. With two Suns now in our solar system, there’s no more need to lay down one side at a time for tanning. Now you can get a nice even double-sided tan just by standing up. That IS wonderful!!

A dwarf star in Jupiter’s orbit (necessarily increased x tens or hundreds times its mass to ignite) would be too dim for that purpose!

Thank you so much for reviewing this. Really enjoyed your take on it. As a big fan of 80's sci-fi, I always thought this movie was underrated. Even though it's VERY different from its predecessor, I think it's a solid sequel that wraps up the Discovery/HAL storyline in a satisfying way. Obviously, 2001 is a better, more important movie. But I think this compliments it very well. Not necessarily worse. Just different. This is definitely more of a "movie" movie and therefore I think it's more re-watchable. If I can suggest another review for something a little off the beaten path, have you guys seen Dark City (1998)?

No problem; we enjoyed going over these. I 100% agree with your assessment, and they did a solid job with this sequel and HAL. Haven't seen Dark City, but we will look into it!

@@blabbercast Personally, I think it's one of the best neo-noir science fiction films ever made. And also a bit underrated and not talked about much. I think it really laid the ground work for the Matrix. Oh, and it's got Jennifer Connelly.

I've always liked this movie, it's a solid sequel i think. Ofcourse doesn't have the gradious, epicness of Kubricks masterpiece 2001. But this is still a cool movie, i love the scene where Bowman appears to Floyd, nice seeing Kier Duela return to his iconic role. there really should be a 2069 and/or atleast 3001 Film made today, by either Christopher Nolan or Denis Villeneuve. Unfortunately Hollywood would never take such a risk, especially considering just how dumbed-down modern audiences are today. Deep, intellectual and thought-provoking Sci Fi these days, Films like Arrival, NOPE and even to some degree Prometheus for it's themes just go way over most people's heads and are sadly not given the credit they're due. I do think Denis Villeneuve could make a incredible Film Adaptation of Rendezvous with Rama though.

Hollywood is in the gutter these days. It'd be cool to see them take more chances, as you said. It's been a long dry spell when we had so many in the course of 20 years.

@@blabbercast Yep, i'd like to think they would seeing as all their Safe and/or stupid ideology pushing message movies is really grinding on even the normies now lol. But i noticed even Nolan isn't delving into anykind of real deep sci fi now. Instead of making a movie about boring Oppenheimer (and i've heard that he even plays fast & loose with the Historical Fact in that Film), he SHOULD have made a mind-boggling, twist & turn epic Film about the Philadelphia Experiment instead.

@@RaikenXion I know the normies are getting sick of it. It's stupid; screaming at reality doesn't change it. I miss when people had thick skin. I like Cillian Murphy, and I may check that film out. Don't fret, though. There has to be something brewing somewhere. There always is. Probably some indie stuff out there as well. Hidden gems. The whole 'Message' thing needs to fucking stop.

My LaserDisc disc of this film is faulty, so I haven't finished it yet. The Cold War should have ended at the credit roll of Rocky IV. The Soviet Union could have collapsed with Rocky's left hook. Fellas, the new Mission Impossible film is fantastic.

The "other worlds" are the other moons of Jupiter. The Jupiter star would be a much smaller star than our sun since Jupiter's mass is significantly smaller than our own sun. That new star wouldn't last for billions of years lacking the fuel needed. The new star wouldn't be a significant source of heating or light on earth due to the fantastic distances between us and Jupiter. Since life had already evolved under the ice, it wouldn't need billions of years to evolve (hopefully) into intelligent life forms. Our solar system wouldn't resemble Tatooine, or any other typical binary star system since the two stars wouldn't be close to each other.
