Her dance skills were switch 1/2 (D), full turn (A), switch leap (C), wolf jump (A), and split jump (A). Instead of giving her the switch 1/2, she got a switch leap. The switch leap was counted in the beginning, it doesn't count when she does it in combination meaning she loses .1 for not connecting it to the kochetkova. Her 3 counting dance skills are the switch leap and 2 A's so she loses .2. The significant wobble was after the free walkover which lost her .1 for a missed connection.

The VT/UB final was actually held the day before the BB/FX final, so she didn't change between rotations or anything :]

LOL besides the look, I loved the leotard she used in this final. Has got to be one of best she's wore.

But even so, it's such a joy to watch! I really wish some gymnasts would start doing that again.

To sum up, she lost .3 because she counted easier dance skills than in prelims. .1 because the switch leap combo got no bonus. She lost .2 because she didn't do her second series which she did in prelims.

Kui Yuanyuan did it at Worlds '97. Triple split leap into FF-LSO-LSO.

Not quite, she did 2 back handsprings followed by a laid out back flip. Still very difficult though. But I still yearn to see the 2 or 3 layout series.

Her switch 1/2 leap did not get credit. If you look at the slow-mo, the feet aren't fully rotated. I think the judges should have given her the leap and just taken off a few tenths. If the judges gave her no credit, I think Raisman also should have lost credit for it.

this bb final represents everything that is wrong with gymnastics right now. there were two gymnasts each from, russia, china, usa, and romania. nothing else. compare it to the vault final

Komova is one of the only handspring layout, layout series I see on beam these days. I haven't seen anyone perform 3 layouts in a row since Dominque Dawes. Why does no one do them anymore?

It's interesting then that an undercooked tour jete got downgraded all the way to a switch leap, as they could have called it an overdone switch 1/4 instead, thereby giving Ponor the switch leap/FF full combo later on. I don't have the COP in front of me but I wonder what it specifies.

It's such a risky skill that isn't really rewarded well. So too much risk for not enough difficulty. Gymnasts pretty much stopped performing it after the '96 Olympics. I agree with about Komova! She's so fluid!

So how much was that leap worth? Her start was 5.7 and they mentioned it was 6.3 in qualifying? Was it that along with all the wobbles?
@callmeShmingle

the judges couldn't do that because there are separate judging panels for difficulty and execution they don't get to communicate with each other and decide what to do.

Yeah, I'm sure they are told to do that-champion the other American gymnasts, whether or not they are even at the meet! I feel that with the BBC commentators who always talk about Beth Tweddle so I guess the same goes for the USA. I do like the NBC commentators though, I must say. I've pretty much learned about gymnastics through their commentating. They do a great job describing and picking errors etc I think, at least!

Yeah, I've also seen them just plain ignoring the gymnasts altogether because they didn't feel like talking about them/knew nothing (the one from less present countries) or start talking about Wieber or Sacramone or idefk throughout the whole routine of some other poor gymnast, without making a single observation about what's happening on screen at the moment. They have no sportsmanship at all, so embarrassing.

Never mind mangling the names, I've heard them get the name wrong entirely! Calling one gymnast by another's name! Surely it's not too difficult to double check, it must be frustrating for the gymnasts!

@peaceluvcheer97 Well, they are Japanese announcers. As someone who is learning this language, I can assure you, they have no names like that in day to day Japanese so I think that you should give them more credit for their pronunciation.

Actually, it's because she lost 2 acrobatic elements and 2 connections. After her front aerial (where she had a wobble) she was supposed to do a flicflac and a back aerial. She did not.
