The 2012 Division 2 State Championship Game saw one of the most dramatic finishes in MHSAA Football Finals history. The Muskegon Big Reds tied the see-saw contest at 28-28 with just over two minutes to play in the game. On the ensuing kickoff, Brother Rice junior Jason Alessi caught a cross-field throw back pass, from sophomore Delano Madison, and went 91 yards for the game winning touchdown. Brother Rice won their 8th football state title in school history, and their first ever back-to-back crowns.
