The job takes a good 4 hours from start to finish, at least for a shade tree like me. I got the part at the local Oriley's auto parts. 15 bucks for the nicer one. The cheap one is about 7.50. Toughest part was the adhesive on the metal tray that holds the wipers etc... that took a little muscle a thin screw drive and patience to get loose. I removed and replaced the sensor without removing the Vacuum pump or the ground straps. I used a small pocket screw driver to remove the clip holding (don't drop it) the sensor in the engine. I then fished out the sensor using the sensor wire. I plugged the new one into the sensor connector and fished the whole thing back to where it belongs. The little clip was the hardest. Getting it off was easy. Putting it back on was much harder. You have to depress the sensor while pushing in on the clip. I did this with the same small screw driver I used to remove the clip (make sure you are on the sensor body and not the connector). It is really tricky not to lose the clip. I wrapped a bit of thin magnet wire around the clip and it saved me from dropping it onto the back of the engine the first few tries. Pulled hard on the wire after pushing the clip in and it snapped off and I pulled it out. problem solved. Before you pull the vacuum pump remember the gasket is a $60-75 special order item. Many of the tutorials out there say to remove it. If you do, you will need a new gasket. The dealership wanted to charge me $1500.00 to replace it and the thermostat, so probably around a 1,000 bucks just for the sensor change. They said that they had to remove the turbo to replace the thermostat, I am here to tell you that is a bold face lie. Yeah, it is a little finicky to get it out without doing that. But took less time than to even begin unbolting the turbo Maybe 15min total from start to finish for that little gem. $48.00 housing and all AC/Delco via Amazon! Used my scan gauge 2 to clear the codes and everything is back to normal. Took about 4 hours total. Oh, you may need a tri-wing security bit to get the cover off the engine. At least that is what mine took. So, for a total of 4 hrs. of my time, and $63.00 in parts. I saved, around $1,437 dollars. (if you bought the scan gauge 2 it runs about $159.00) But, you can drive it over to the nearest auto parts and they generally will reset it for free.

Thanks my coolant hose is leaking back there and I thought I would have to remove the tranny just to get to it. Didn’t acure to me to do that.
