I was at Poole Quay Bike Night earlier and was admiring a brand new R1200GS, the owner came over and started chatting and it wasn't long before he mentioned 'The Missenden Flyer'! Congratulations you're a household name 🎉😉

Actually bought the GS shortly after having seen your videos about it... an absolute joy. Super reliable, loads of torque, but easy to ride. Wife is happy due to the comfort of the pillion seat and great seating position. Luggage options and the Nav 6 make this a wonderful touring bike - only downside is that you see the GS all over the roads given it is a top seller. Wouldn’t miss it for a thing. Thanks for your reviews, keep on filming !

Hi all, I’ve just bought one of these. I rode it from Glasgow to Newcastle on lovely twisty roads with no traffic. Absolutely bowled over by this bike for all the points made in the video. It’s just great in every context. Dry bendies and you’ll fly. So… I’ve had 2 Multistradas. Sold them as soon as I’d bought them (well nearly). I currently have two Buells (love them) but I can’t see why I’d ride them when logically the GS is so right. So… the Buells are going!

bullmac69 ...spot on - I was all Triumphed out and fancied a change, plus I found the Triumph Tiger 1050 a little top heavy, where as the GS feels much lighter in comparison with the flat boxer engine presenting it's weight low down. I am a Triumph fan, but now I'm also a Beemer man! Good luck working your way through my videos!!!! ;0)

Went to the dealership today to see it, just after taking the Multistrada for a test ride. So many aspects to consider that i really dont know what i want anymore. I feel like the bmw IS the way to go, even if my heart is saying Multistrada; the financing and warranty are better, so is the resale value and the general quality feel of the machine. I'll test ride one in the next couple of weeks and make a decision then i guess. It's gonna have to be damn good to make me look pass over the looks of it. Anyways...nice video, i'm sure everybody like me appreciated the sound, its really good, almost no wind noise. Cheers

Thanks for posting great video. Next week I am traded in my Tiger 1050 for a second hand earlier version. I know its going to seem agricultural but as many owners say never test ride one and accept that you will need to actually tune in to the bike if you have ridden smooth three and four cylinder bikes for years previously.

Hi Ted - you'll soon get used to the GS, the boxer engine has character, where as I would say the Tiger gearbox was definitely agricultural! Enjoy your new bike....exciting times ;0) Ride safe - TMF

TheMissendenFlyer Thanks, TMF. I've got the Nav V for it, and paired it with the SENA SMH5-FM for voice commands while navigating. I also got the tall seat for it and finally I have a bike that fits me and my long legs. The bike I got is white with the blacked out engine and drive train and looks nice. It sounds nice, too. It's a great bike. I added X-head LC valve cover protectors and a SW Motech LED headlight protector. The cruise control is nice, too. Which windscreen did you go with? Thanks, Harold.

Who is this bike (type of bike) for? What type of riding? I always had sports bikes and I'm looking for a change but definitely not interested in any off road riding. GS's are not cheap and I'm tryting to find a reason why, what do they do to justify their high cost?
@TheMissendenFlyer
8 жыл бұрын
...n the main they're aimed at people who want to tour on a bike but don't necessarily go for classic touring bikes (+ of course the true off-road adventurer types). Have a ride on one, you'll quickly see why they are so popular and can command a high price...great engine, great comfort, state of the art electronics package, BMW service/quality, etc....I bought mine shortly after I made this film and still love it as much as the first time I rode it - 2 and a half years on....

Another interesting 'rambling' vid TMF, thanks. Watching from Canada before I return from my break to the Uk to blow the dust of my Gs. A noticeable amount of Gs's touring over here towards Alaska, mainly Harley's though. Hope not to use the heated grips for some time though as you have. On that thought, have you ever used a heated inner body warmer powered from the bike ? I just wondered whether these can be connected via the cig lighter or need to be direct to the battery ? Any thoughts ??? Catch you later. .

Just watched this and the Ducati review, both very nice bikes of their genre. I was curious as to why perhaps you had excluded the Explorer from the choice list, or perhaps it's a case of too many Triumphs? Lovely to see some familiar roads around Maidenhead, Marlow, Littlewick Green, Bourne End. The BMW is such a proven package, it's hard to resist. Although the earlier model, I'd urge you to check out ericbusa' s channel, he's done some marvellous touring videos on his GS.

Thanks for your kind words pgod - glad you recognised my test ground! And yes you're right, time for a change from Triumph maybe (plus to be honest I regard the Tiger Explorer as a bit of a GS knock-off...why have a copy if you can have the real thing?).....and as you say, can all these BMW lovers and positive reviews, bike of the year etc, all be mistaken??? ...and thanks for the tip-off, will defo checkout ericbusa.....

Hi, another good post. iv just found your channel and subed, I'm now watching my way through your vids, so apologise if you have already covered this but I'm interested why you didn't consider, or short-list if you did consider the tiger 1200 explorer. Most reviews iv seen seem to put the tiger slightly ahead of the GS for road only touring, with the GS as the better Dual-Sports option. Was it just a change from triumph? I recently bought a Tiger 800 after a few years of Street Triple 675 ownership. I'm thinking of maybe moving up again to a 1200 next bike. Keep up the good work, and stay safe.

Great review, keen to know if you considered the adventure and if so what made you decide on the GS and not GSA? As per some of the other posts I'm now considering trading in ZX-10R and getting a GS for touring. Very similar reasons to the R1 comments.I have similar concerns regarding ride height with a 29inch in-seam. Would need to test the lowered suspension with optional lowered seat I think although looking at the specs there doesn't seem too much in it between the GS and GSA in terms of seat height. no issues leaning off or balling it but it's the manouvering that concerns me if Im on tip toes. Anyway, off to Motorrad the weekend to check out the options.
@TheMissendenFlyer

I didn't consider the GSA for three main reasons - 1. It wasn't available this time last year (at least not to buy in dealers) 2. The size/weight of the standard GS is quite enough for me to manhandle - riding her is a doddle but shifting her around on my gravel driveway can be a challenge, I think I would struggle with the GSA 3. For the sort of riding I do not sure I need a GSA (in my mind just better fuel range) but a significant chunk more weight. I tried the lowered suspension GS and now wish I had gone for that, I have the lowered seat on mine but another inch or two lower would be lovely to keep her stable at stand-still. Enjoy your test ride at the weekend, great bikes.....

Couldn't disagree more with your assesment of the transmission. Very hard to shift smoothly without allowing a second or two deliberate shift and rpm drop. Motor and handleing are stellar. Damn shame BMW would allow this transmission on thier flagship bike.
