I have the same bike but in the pearl white. Was so tempted to do the black, looks bad ass. Depending on how fast you need to stop I usually engine brake down to 3rd or 2nd before using the breaks. I do tap the rear brake lightly as I do so. Just enough to get the light to come on to warn cars behind me.

Nice ! I've got the same year and color bike , I love mine ! Remember to squeeze and release slow on the clutch as you down shift roll off and on the throttle for a smooth shift . Keep your rpms above 3000 4000 ..

They do make Frame Sliders for the bikes. This bike is still so new that they really don't have a lot of after parts for it. I'm going to buy Frame Sliders just not sure when. I want to get a few other things first.

I get 49.8 avg mpg and I commute over a mountain everyday. Practice the down shifts and adjust your idle. M13 has a video of how. Great bike. Wish it had the exhaust sound of an inline 4 but love the torque and mpg.

On page 52 of the owners manual it states to run the engine for 2 or 3 minutes at idle speed. This way the oil is able to work into all the engine parts.

Had a 2012 ZX6R and another biker causes an accident that totaled it and messed me up. Thinking about this as my next bike in the thunder blue with ABS. On my ZX6 u didn't need to downshift to stop under 55mph because the brakes were so good. I rode a 250 and u need to downshift to assist the brakes(which I didn't like.and proves that the super sports are safer to ride). Any who, nice bike!

I think Yoshimura have put out crash guards for this bike ... those will help reduce damage to the fairings and the bike itself... Best way to protect your legs is to take a Motorcylcle Safety Course .

hi, you don't need to down shift when you are in a free run. Down shift when you feel that your motorcycle hard to accelerate. Don't you ever try to down shift when you are in high speed in short. RIDE SAFE

I fill up about once a week, I would say it gets about 40+ miles per gallon. I ride it at high speeds, from time to time 90+ mph. If I didn't do that I bet I could get more mpg

Congrats! During the "break-in" period you really shouldn't be letting the engine sit and idle much, and you shouldn't be reving the engine in neutral either. Also make sure that you're varying the RPMs while riding, never "lugging" it around, keep the engine in the middle RPM range, and fluctuate between the lower and upper end of that range. Don't just ride around and hold a consistent RPM. This will help ensure a good break-in for longevity, better performance and millage from your engine.

My 650 ninja is a great stater bike. Top speed that I have hit is 130. You don't sit too low. It won't be my last bike. My next one will be a 600 cc or 1000. And it won't be a ninja.
@MKTElM

Frankly , I dont think one has to run the engine for a full two to three minutes at idle speed before driving off.............. thirty seconds should do fine to get the oil to circulate fully .... Many people are too impatient with the breaking in process.... I think we should 'go by the book ' here if we want the bike to last .
