While we are on the subject: those tinder blocks will light with a flint striker, you just have to use a knife to shave off bits of it and light the bits first, then light the rest of the block with the burning bits. After the block is on fire you can add a few sticks and make a larger fire. I have a bunch of those in my camping and survival gear.

I am a USAF Aircrew Flight Equipment technician, I deal with these specific modules as part of my job, the new survival and medical modules are slightly different, lacking the water purification tablets. The chem stick is not visible to the naked eye as it produces an IR glow. Just as a bit of extra information these modules are not issued by themselves to aircrew, instead they are tied in to a larger survival kit/vest. The types of kits/vests are determined by the type of aircraft they are to be used on and the components inside the kits/vests are determined by the MAJCOM/base.

It can at least get you a good half a mile depending on how bad the wound is, before you start dripping again, but most ppl pass out about a pint and a half into bleeding and that’s when you know they don’t have much time left to get to a MASH. Red light is not infrared. Is to be used during night operations to read maps and etc. that way the enemy is not as likely to see your position as a normal flash light would give your position away immediately because of how bright it is. The other light that doesn’t work however is a infrared light that can only be seen through NVGs or any other kind of night vision device. If you turn all the lights off and you turn the light on and hold it up to your eye you will be able to make out the infrared light but just barely.

The sticky camo wrap, its called coflex, we actually wrap our horse legs with it and use it as a medical wrap. You can get it pretty cheap in any color at your local farm store, tractor supply, and it says its for horses but its awesome to use on kids when they have a sprain or what not. I always have a box of different colors on hand because it will hold wires together behind your tv and entertainment system or wrap a bat handle with and then use the sports tape and makes it softer. Whats really nice is the coflex is stretchy and sticks to itself, no extra tape or pins needed on the go!

Given how much technology has changed since Vietnam, it makes sense these kits would be tailored for ensuring a speedy search and rescue, but the lack of pharmaceuticals especially compared to the '67 kit is really surprising. Back in the late 70's and early 80's. We bitch so much, that the joint forces put out a report in Nov 1979 about the state of survival gear in the army, the navy, and the air force. (See Google) It was a total mess, There would be outdated kits going back to the Korea War, or no kits, many had notes kits will be coming that was dated 1969. No quality control, some kits were rotten by heat, aged, or moisture, worse kits that had vermin in it. Sometime during budget cuts, you got a "survival manual" that came out of your pay, a nylon first - aid pouch with an empty plastic container with a note of items that you can find at the base PX. Only pilots and their aircrew got training and gear. After 1982, things got better. No more damned notes.

The fancy glow stick inside the tube is probably also on IR dim light and with that set up when you spin it in the circle they call it the buzzsaw through night vision goggles you can see that from a very far distance

Guys, am i the only one, who think this is a trash kit? The medical part in the II. world war kit from almost 70 year ago much better than today. This kit doesn´t contain a simple painkiller! Where is the robust survival knife?? No, the Leatherman multitool with the foldable tiny little blade not a survival knife. Where is the 21. century "high-tech" things like space blanket (or a common poncho), a ferro rod, high power ir/visible light flasligh(with sos and morse function), or some ration?? And i am not mention yet the rope like a paracord, penflare (because the second ww and the vietnam era kit contained too), saw, visible glowsticks, etc.

Fun fact, that blue line on the quick clot is radio opaque so when an x-ray is shot it can be seen inside the body.

Loved the scene in "Top Gun: Maverick" where he walks into a small restaurant after crashing and asks where he is. Adults are stunned at his appearance, don't know what to say. Little boy answers; "Earth."

I loved using the triangular bandages (aka curvats) they can be used for everything. Even litter straps if you run out during a mass caul.

The strings are so long to the whistle and other stuff for a good reason. They can be used for a tie down on makeshift shelters if trapped for the night, turnicats, fishing for food, etc...

If it has not already been mentioned, the plastic pack of matches and striker are British, you can tell by the number 99 in the NSN. 00,01 are US, 21 is Canada, I think Germany is 12, and so on.

The light stick is IR and requires NODs to observe. Spinning it creates a highly visible circle that aircrew can spot.

The red flash light is red, the black flashlight is actual infrared and you can't see it with the naked eye, just like the chemlight. I'm sure they're actually both working fine in the video.

Better than nothing I suppose but not near as useful as the items in the 1967 SEEK kit you demonstrated. The items in the '67 medical kit are much more comprehensive with the exception of the anti-clot. The mini leatherman , lifeboat matches and flint striker in this kit are nice. This kit's signal mirror looks better than the old kit too. Surprised there's no saw. Great presentation Steve! Thanks for you efforts!!

That self adhesive bandage is called COBAN by 3m. Stuff is amazing for dressing wounds. Protip: don't compress it or stretch it too far when applying you can take it off and recuse it if it's clean and area doesn't need to be sterile. I keep a good supply of it in my first aid kit at home and first aid / trauma bag I keep in my vehicle for work.

the little Flint striker works better on the wet fire if you pull it apart s bit or use some cotton first rip up one of the bandages or the cotton part of the Band-Aid. Even better if there is alcohol in the mosquito Wipe or something else would work really good. Then when you have a fire use some of the cotton bandage to make char cloth and the flint striker will work excellent with that.

There is a different between red (visible) and infra-red (not visible) The non functioning light will probably show up under a non-ir filtered camera like a cctv camera. the cylume stick, will likely be an IR (non visible) chemical light stick. I have used many of these with night vision.

Survival and evasion supplies with fragrance. Hmmm? At least they give you a sponge to keep the blood flowing. Very nice ball of Kling, best stuff in the kit
