As an owner of one I would HIGHLY recommend test driving one, although wait till you can PROPERLY test drive it in the dry and ice/ snow free conditions. But I live in the part of the UK where it's just rained all the time so far and I must say my ST has handled the wet and puddles very well, I've just left the traction control on to be safe and she's fine, you still have a bit of fun too.

As a European, this new Fiesta comes as no surprise because Ford have been building great fun to drive small cars over here for years! The 60's and 70's had the Lotus Cortina, Escort Mexico and RS2000. During the 80's they went wild; Bottom of the tree you had models like the Fiesta sport, then climbing through the XR2, Escort XR3, RS Turbo, Sierra XR4i, XR 4x4, Cosworth and Cosworth 4x4, right up to the Fantastic Escort Cosworth. Hell in the 80's you could even specify performance springs and wheels for your Ford Transit van. LOL! 90's they dropped the all wheel drive putting all there efforts into the FWD Fiesta and Focus in it various guises and in later years the fantastic Focus RS. In all, each generation have had their own special fun Ford. Some may look slow or underpowered by today's standard but that the way things are, each generation improves on the last! point is, for me, yepo great car but its just business as usual.

great review but I dislike it when Americans review this car and Focus ST and speak as if its only NOW Ford has found a good recipe for a proper hot hatch. Ever since the introduction of the first gen Fiesta, in the late 1970s, Ford has been producing award winning hatches starting with the XR2, then Escort XR3, Sierra XR4, Escort Cosworth, 1st gen Focus RS etc etc etc. Yes none were sold in the USA but my point is its been over 30 years that Ford has been a dominant hot hatch builder.
@Dgannt
10 жыл бұрын
Yes, Ford hot hatches have been around for a long time and other cars like Sierra XR4 was also great. I've always been saying that US manufacturers have had 2 completely different system. One system was to build cars for the US market and the other was how their European factories have build totally different cars for the rest of the world. It's now they are selling these cars also in US and started the one-Ford system or one platform system.
@ryguy522
10 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately most of those cars would be illegal to even own in the US so for many this is the first time they have experienced a good hot hatch by Ford. It's a shame we never got any of these hot hatches before because they seem to be selling pretty well.

I drove one on an autocross course at a Ford sponsored event in Atlanta last summer. The sharp, right now, turn in and lack of mid corner understeer was very impressive. While it didn't lack for power on an autocross circuit, you'd be doing a lot of point-bys at a track day.

I've been waiting a lonnng time for this!! I live in the states. The most fun I've ever had driving are the cars in Europoe. Renting the little compact sporty hatchbacks like the citroen c3, peugeot 208, etc. made me wish such cars were available here in the US. And now, finally a European-based hatchback is brought to the states in the form of the Fiesta ST. I have to have one! :)

I've had one for about four weeks now and love it. Only complaints are that it goes through front tires and brake pads pretty quickly, the latter largely due to the "torque vectoring" system that uses the brakes to slow the inside front wheel during cornering. It makes for amazing cornering but they get hot quite quickly, a pad change will be one of my first mods. I'm really looking forward to the Mountune MP215 package, which will up power to 215, add lots of HP and TQ through the midrange, and will be sold through Ford Racing dealers, which means it's factory approved and won't affect warranty.

Love my Fiesta ST! Really just a great car and value overall. I have come from higher HP cars but I don't feel like I am giving up a thing with the Fiesta ST. The low end torque is perfect for a little fun in the city. Plop it into 2nd gear and it really pulls. You aren't going to get anywhere close to 35MPG if you drive it how it is meant to be driven but I have easily achieved even higher MPG cruising on the highway. Very happy with my decision to pick up the Fiesta ST so far!

25 people have the new Clio RS or the new Peugeot 208 GTI haha. I have this car, only the better three door as I live in Europe. And yes, it's fecking brilliant! It's very reliable, it's very well made for the money, it's well specced, I have the ST2 and get the Sony stereo with bluetooth and voice control and those leather Recaro seats and they are heated. The ride is NOT harsh, your a pathetic weekling if you think so because those seats are so comfy and supportive, plus this is an ST, not an RS. You can drive the car to the limit and have bags of fun, it will keep up with far far more expensive cars round the corners, and you can turn the traction control completely off if you want. Also people have got 250bhp out of it modifying it so far, and that's just a stage 2 tune with exhaust, different intercooler and air pipe! They think the standard turbo and pistons etc are good for 270bhp. Anyway I love mine, it's nicely understated too. Puts a smile on my face. And to those calling it pathetic? Hmm... I do believe the new 2014 F1 series has cars with 1.6 litre V6 turbo charged engines! Although pushing out 700 plus bhp.

Great car, but for sensitive (older ?) people the ride is a little harsh, the seats are greats, but the suspension setting is really firm. It's the first thing my dad told me when I took him for a ride with mine. But for me it's an amazing car, great fun for the price

I was given a 2014 Ford Fiesta SE (not the ST reviewed here) with the optional sport package and luxury add-ons while my card was in the shop for body work. I have personally never owned an Ford made car in my lifetime, but this car has really made me think twice. I just LOVE the little car!! It is extremely fun to drive; the Dual-clutch transmission was actually quite impressive. The car was feature-rich and very comfortable. Having driven it for only a few days, I am at the point where I am WILLING to trade / sell my existing car for a Ford Fiesta!! For city driving, and a little bit of fun every now and then, I think Ford has nailed it with the Fiesta.

Id like to see a proper review of the Veloster Turbo R-spec when it comes out. I think that would be a great car to compete with the Fiesta ST and be a bit cheaper. As the owner of the VT after test driving a Fiesta I think it does have a place in the hot hatch market and is underated. $80 for a motor mount and rigid collars make it handle just as well as the ST and 2014 brought torque vectoring!

In overboost the fiesta ST makes 200 hp. They say it got 180 hp because in the UK, where this car sells the best, you pay insurance on how much hp you got. That's why they say it makes 180 hp.
@marksapollo
10 жыл бұрын
In the UK it's 179bhp with overboost to 197bhp, they have to advertise it like that due to advertising laws in the UK, because it's got overboost they are not allowed to advertise the 197 figure in the UK as it's not a permanent figure but they can do it in the US. The engine gives you 197 for about 13 seconds in each gear. So they say but I think it's a LOT longer than that.

Not really, Clio RS is faster but utterly ruined by it's utterly stupid gearbox, the new 208GT is a great mid ranger but slower and not as sharp handling and has the most stupid dash design in the world, the steering wheel covers the dials? The Polo GTI no one seems to care about, but Mini have copied Ford with it's brand new model Cooper and it has a 1.6 liter turbo engine, so will be interesting to see how it compares although I bet it's priced a fair bit higher.

Best mini hot hatch for sale right now, only a Corsa OPC Nürburgring (a tad pricier and needs 100 octane fuel) and a Clio 203 (no longer available and badly replaced) could match it. Über expensive Mini JCW or Gp not taken into account.

I see the new Corsa is out soon, will be interesting to see how Vauxhall respond to the ST with the new VXR, it's new Astra VXR gets great reviews. As for Renault, yeah they had a great Clio to a disaster Clio thanks to the most rubbish gearbox, I guess they thought it was a cool idea at the time? If they offered the new Clio RS with a manual box it would possibly be the current best in class instead of the ST.
@joseillofdez.5272

Yeah, they really did a great job with the new Astra, it looks way too big for my taste (19" and 20" on a hatchback, where are we going?!) but I know it's pretty and it seems to grip well around corners too! I can understand that Renault may have wanted to make the Clio a bit more unique with a sequential tranny (only VAGs offer one) and some guys may want to get the whole "Ragnotti" experience, but they messed it all up. Watch this for reference, you may have already seen it thought: watch?v=mqFp688E9WM And lets not get started with the fake noise...

The GTi will probably be faster, but editorials like Motortrend and C&D said that ford has managed to do things with a front wheel drive car that no one else has been able to do before, including power sliding and drifting...without the E-brake. Not to mention, the engines in the ST's, both the Focus and Fiesta, are some of the best sounding 4 bangers ever made, definitely the best sounding examples to ever come out of America.

I'd like to see that, forget the speed but handling wise it would be a good contest, the original Type R was hailed as the best front wheel drive car ever, then again so was the Peugeot 106 GTI. Actually get ALL the best renowned handling FWD cars and test them against the Fezza ST.

LSG Drizzt Why so? it's not like Mike's review was about how practical or efficient the car is, they both focused on how fun it is to drive, and rightly so.

instead of giving too high rating in terms of space etc. to reach the overall good score you want, you should better count the most important stats for each car twice (performance for example in this car)

Great video, this is a car I wish I could hate because it's a Ford (but I can't!). Could you guys please review the 2014 Fiat 500 Abarth?

Drive is there any chance you can do a comparo between the ST and Cooper S? They seem to be pretty well matched.

you've had them for 30 years due to the fact that your roads are smaller and your fuel prices require financial planning. Only reason they're becoming popular in America is because fuel prices have risen just a tad and fuel efficient vehicles are all the fashion. "Real World?" my my aren't we pretentious...

northroad1 i thought that fuel prices in the UK are roughly 6 pounds for one gallon. That roughly 9.94 dollars (which is a lot here). where do you live? .60 euros fro a liter is a very good figure to me.

northroad1 LS1s getting 32MPG and putting down 380+RWHP running on the same fuel that a slamm turbo motor needs to keep from going Tibbers(AKA "ROFL boom"). Doesn't seem that expensive to me.

How in the world did you get those great camera shots? At first I thought it was a chase car, but then I thought it must be RC airplane, heli, or quadcopter. I can't figure it out.

Fiesta ST = Focus ST Condensed. BTW, Where's my AWD Focus?

I've had 14 ford focus's all ranging from the 1.6 tdci (shite engine) to the 2.0 tdci (163) and finally I got a fiesta for 2 months but the ST wasn't out so I had the 1.0 125hp ecoboost and it was by far the most fun I've had in a car. The fiesta st looks amazing and I am very tempted but is it worth getting over the focus st?... Not sure yet.

Ah, yes! The commercial series from Drive network. Thank you, Drive, for "reviewing" these cars and finding nothing put positive things to say about them. I'll know exactly where to look if I want an honest review about a future purchase; not here!!

Mike, you make it sound like 197 hp and 202 pf/t usually wouldn't get a bike rolling. Isn't that like.. a little harsh?

I was drooling over a 5 door at a stealership a few months ago, I asked a salesman about the 3 door and he said it will be sold in the US but couldn't tell me when. Guess I never should have believed a salesman

Renault,Peugot,and even VW fans admit it the Ford Fiesta ST is worlds best pocket rocket, Focus ST(which got pinned down due to 2015 VW GTi) was a bit of a bummer but Fiesta is an answer to those who think Ford lost the edge of making Porsche/BMW killers which they did during 80s 90s with Escorts and Sierras and got code named in Europe "poor mans BMW", , now the action aint over yet, Ford fans can rejoice Ford is preparing a new Ford Fiesta RS with 230 hp from 1.6 turbo, its FWD itself but think of it, If Fiesta without a mechanical slip diff is this fun think of Fiesta RS with 230 hp a 2nd gen revoknuckle front suspension with adaptive dampers and an active mechanical slip differential with torque vectoring and disk brakes on 4 wheels, the interior comforts will be sacrificed a bit for weight saving but essentials wont be stripped off, so wait for 2016 Ford Fiesta RS, the emperor of small car hot hatches is in the making.
